Mastery of the Mind (1st)
“สตฺตหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ จิตฺตํ วเส วตฺเตติ, โน จ ภิกฺขุ จิตฺตสฺส วเสน วตฺตติฯ กตเมหิ สตฺตหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ สมาธิกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส สมาปตฺติกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส ฐิติกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส วุฏฺฐานกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส กลฺยาณกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส โคจรกุสโล โหติ, สมาธิสฺส อภินีหารกุสโล โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺตหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ จิตฺตํ วเส วตฺเตติ, โน จ ภิกฺขุ จิตฺตสฺส วเสน วตฺตตี”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with seven qualities masters their mind and is not mastered by it. What seven? It’s when a bhikkhu is skilled at samādhi, skilled in entering samādhi, skilled in remaining in samādhi, skilled in emerging from samādhi, skilled in gladdening the mind for samādhi, skilled in the meditation subjects for samādhi, and skilled in projecting the mind purified by samādhi. A bhikkhu with these seven qualities masters their mind and is not mastered by it.”
