Qigong

Qigong (气功) is a traditional Chinese mind–body practice that combines slow movements, breathing techniques, and focused intention to cultivate and balance qi (life energy).

Qigong involve gentle, flowing movements (sometimes done standing still), breathing exercises (slow, controlled breathing), meditation and mental focus, and postural alignment. Some forms are very slow and meditative, others are more dynamic.

Qi (气) = vital energy or life force, Gong (功) = skill or cultivated practice, so qigong means cultivating energy through practice

People practice qigong for stress reduction, improved flexibility and balance, increased energy, emotional regulation and overall wellness. It’s often compared to Tai Chi, but qigong is generally simpler and more repetitive, making it easier for beginners.

It has roots in ancient Chinese culture and is closely connected to Tao Te Ching philosophy, Taoism, Buddhism, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Types of Qigong

• Medical Qigong – focused on healing and health
• Martial Qigong – used in martial arts training
• Spiritual Qigong – aimed at meditation and spiritual development
