Textual Analysis (1st)
“สตฺตหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ นจิรเสฺสว จตโสฺส ปฏิสมฺภิทา สยํ อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกตฺวา อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหเรยฺยฯ กตเมหิ สตฺตหิ?
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with seven qualities will soon realize the four kinds of textual analysis and live having achieved them with their own insight. What seven?
อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ‘อิทํ เม เจตโส ลีนตฺตนฺ'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ;
It’s when a bhikkhu truly understands: ‘This is mental sluggishness’.
อชฺฌตฺตํ สงฺขิตฺตํ วา จิตฺตํ ‘อชฺฌตฺตํ เม สงฺขิตฺตํ จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ;
They truly understand internally constricted mind as ‘internally constricted mind’.
พหิทฺธา วิกฺขิตฺตํ วา จิตฺตํ ‘พหิทฺธา เม วิกฺขิตฺตํ จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ;
They truly understand externally scattered mind as ‘externally scattered mind’.
ตสฺส วิทิตา เวทนา อุปฺปชฺชนฺติ, วิทิตา อุปฏฺฐหนฺติ, วิทิตา อพฺภตฺถํ คจฺฉนฺติ;
They know feelings as they arise, as they remain, and as they go away.
วิทิตา สญฺญา อุปฺปชฺชนฺติ, วิทิตา อุปฏฺฐหนฺติ, วิทิตา อพฺภตฺถํ คจฺฉนฺติ;
They know perceptions as they arise, as they remain, and as they go away.
วิทิตา วิตกฺกา อุปฺปชฺชนฺติ, วิทิตา อุปฏฺฐหนฺติ, วิทิตา อพฺภตฺถํ คจฺฉนฺติ;
They know thoughts as they arise, as they remain, and as they go away.
สปฺปายาสปฺปาเยสุ โข ปนสฺส ธมฺเมสุ หีนปฺปณีเตสุ กณฺหสุกฺกสปฺปฏิภาเคสุ นิมิตฺตํ สุคฺคหิตํ โหติ สุมนสิกตํ สูปธาริตํ สุปฺปฏิวิทฺธํ ปญฺญายฯ
The patterns of qualities—suitable or unsuitable, inferior or superior, or those on the side of dark or bright—are properly grasped, focused on, borne in mind, and comprehended with wisdom.
อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺตหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ นจิรเสฺสว จตโสฺส ปฏิสมฺภิทา สยํ อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกตฺวา อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหเรยฺยา”ติฯ
A bhikkhu with these seven qualities will soon realize the four kinds of textual analysis and live having achieved them with their own insight.”
