Not Betray
សាវត្ថិយំ។
At Sāvatthī.
“ភូតបុព្ពំ, ភិក្ខវេ, សក្កស្ស ទេវានមិន្ទស្ស រហោគតស្ស បដិសល្លីនស្ស ឯវំ ចេតសោ បរិវិតក្កោ ឧទបាទិ: ‘យោបិ មេ អស្ស សុបច្ចត្ថិកោ តស្សបាហំ ន ទុព្ភេយ្យន៑ៜតិ។
“Once upon a time, bhikkhus, as Sakka, lord of gods, was in private retreat this thought came to his mind, ‘I should never betray even a sworn enemy.’
អថ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, វេបចិត្តិ អសុរិន្ទោ សក្កស្ស ទេវានមិន្ទស្ស ចេតសា ចេតោបរិវិតក្កមញ្ញាយ យេន សក្កោ ទេវានមិន្ទោ តេនុបសង្កមិ។
And then Vepacitti, lord of demons, knowing what Sakka was thinking, approached him.
អទ្ទសា ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, សក្កោ ទេវានមិន្ទោ វេបចិត្តិំ អសុរិន្ទំ ទូរតោវ អាគច្ឆន្តំ។ ទិស្វាន វេបចិត្តិំ អសុរិន្ទំ ឯតទវោច: ‘តិដ្ឋ, វេបចិត្តិ, គហិតោសីៜតិ។
Sakka saw Vepacitti coming off in the distance, and said to him, ‘Stop, Vepacitti, you’re caught!’
‘យទេវ តេ, មារិស, បុព្ពេ ចិត្តំ, តទេវ ត្វំ មា បជហាសីៜតិ។
‘Dear sir, don’t give up the idea you just had!’
‘សបស្សុ ច មេ, វេបចិត្តិ, អទុព្ភាយាៜតិ។
‘Swear, Vepacitti, that you won’t betray me.’
‘យំ មុសា ភណតោ បាបំ, យំ បាបំ អរិយូបវាទិនោ; មិត្តទ្ទុនោ ច យំ បាបំ, យំ បាបំ អកតញ្ញុនោ; តមេវ បាបំ ផុសតុ, យោ តេ ទុព្ភេ សុជម្បតីៜ”តិ។
‘Whatever bad things happen to a liar, or to someone who slanders the noble ones, or to someone who betrays a friend, or to someone who’s ungrateful, the same bad things impact anyone who betrays you, Sujā’s husband.’”
