ปฐมฌานสุตฺต
The First Absorption
“ปญฺจิเม, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเม อปฺปหาย อภพฺโพ ปฐมํ ฌานํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหริตุํฯ กตเม ปญฺจ? อาวาสมจฺฉริยํ, กุลมจฺฉริยํ, ลาภมจฺฉริยํ, วณฺณมจฺฉริยํ, ธมฺมมจฺฉริยํฯ อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจ ธมฺเม อปฺปหาย อภพฺโพ ปฐมํ ฌานํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหริตุํฯ
“Bhikkhus, without giving up these five qualities you can’t enter and remain in the first jhāna. What five? Stinginess with dwellings, families, material possessions, praise, and the teachings. Without giving up these five qualities you can’t enter and remain in the first jhāna.
ปญฺจิเม, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเม ปหาย ภพฺโพ ปฐมํ ฌานํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหริตุํฯ กตเม ปญฺจ? อาวาสมจฺฉริยํ, กุลมจฺฉริยํ, ลาภมจฺฉริยํ, วณฺณมจฺฉริยํ, ธมฺมมจฺฉริยํฯ อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจ ธมฺเม ปหาย ภพฺโพ ปฐมํ ฌานํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหริตุนฺ”ติฯ
