อุปสมฺปาเทตพฺพสุตฺต
Who Should Give Ordination
“ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคเตน ภิกฺขุนา อุปสมฺปาเทตพฺพํฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ อเสเขน สีลกฺขนฺเธน สมนฺนาคโต โหติ; อเสเขน สมาธิกฺขนฺเธน สมนฺนาคโต โหติ; อเสเขน ปญฺญากฺขนฺเธน สมนฺนาคโต โหติ; อเสเขน วิมุตฺติกฺขนฺเธน สมนฺนาคโต โหติ; อเสเขน วิมุตฺติญาณทสฺสนกฺขนฺเธน สมนฺนาคโต โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคเตน ภิกฺขุนา อุปสมฺปาเทตพฺพนฺ”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, ordination should be given by a bhikkhu with five qualities. What five? It’s a bhikkhu who has the entire spectrum of an adept’s ethics, samādhi, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom. Ordination should be given by a bhikkhu with these five qualities.”
