A Question About the Dimension of Nothingness
“‘អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនំ, អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនន៑ៜតិ វុច្ចតិ។ កតមំ នុ ខោ អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនន្តិ? តស្ស មយ្ហំ, អាវុសោ, ឯតទហោសិ: ‘ឥធ ភិក្ខុ សព្ពសោ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម នត្ថិ កិញ្ចីតិ អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរតិ។ ឥទំ វុច្ចតិ អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនន៑ៜតិ។
“They speak of this thing called the ‘dimension of nothingness’. What is the dimension of nothingness? It occurred to me: ‘It’s when a bhikkhu, going totally beyond the dimension of infinite consciousness, aware that “there is nothing at all”, enters and remains in the dimension of nothingness. This is called the dimension of nothingness.’
សោ ខ្វាហំ, អាវុសោ, សព្ពសោ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម នត្ថិ កិញ្ចីតិ អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរាមិ។ តស្ស មយ្ហំ, អាវុសោ, ឥមិនា វិហារេន វិហរតោ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនសហគតា សញ្ញាមនសិការា សមុទាចរន្តិ។
And so … I was entering and remaining in the dimension of nothingness. While I was in that meditation, perceptions accompanied by the dimension of infinite consciousness beset me due to loss of focus.
អថ ខោ មំ, អាវុសោ, ភគវា ឥទ្ធិយា ឧបសង្កមិត្វា ឯតទវោច: ‘មោគ្គល្លាន, មោគ្គល្លាន។ មា, ព្រាហ្មណ, អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនំ បមាទោ, អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនេ ចិត្តំ សណ្ឋបេហិ, អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនេ ចិត្តំ ឯកោទិំ ករោហិ, អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនេ ចិត្តំ សមាទហាៜតិ។
Then the Buddha came up to me with his psychic power and said, ‘Moggallāna, Moggallāna! Don’t neglect the dimension of nothingness, brahmin! Settle your mind in the dimension of nothingness; unify your mind and immerse it in the dimension of nothingness.’
សោ ខ្វាហំ, អាវុសោ, អបរេន សមយេន សព្ពសោ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម នត្ថិ កិញ្ចីតិ អាកិញ្ចញ្ញាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហាសិំ។
And so, after some time … I entered and remained in the dimension of nothingness.
យញ្ហិ តំ, អាវុសោ, សម្មា វទមានោ វទេយ្យ …បេ… មហាភិញ្ញតំ បត្តោ”តិ។
So if anyone should be rightly called a disciple who attained to great direct knowledge with help from the Teacher, it’s me.”
