A Question About the Dimension of Infinite Consciousness
“‘វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ, វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនន៑ៜតិ វុច្ចតិ។ កតមំ នុ ខោ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនន្តិ? តស្ស មយ្ហំ, អាវុសោ, ឯតទហោសិ: ‘ឥធ ភិក្ខុ សព្ពសោ អាកាសានញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម អនន្តំ វិញ្ញាណន្តិ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរតិ។ ឥទំ វុច្ចតិ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនន៑ៜតិ។
“They speak of this thing called the ‘dimension of infinite consciousness’. What is the dimension of infinite consciousness? It occurred to me: ‘It’s when a bhikkhu, going totally beyond the dimension of infinite space, aware that “consciousness is infinite”, enters and remains in the dimension of infinite consciousness. This is called the dimension of infinite consciousness.’
សោ ខ្វាហំ, អាវុសោ, សព្ពសោ អាកាសានញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម អនន្តំ វិញ្ញាណន្តិ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរាមិ។ តស្ស មយ្ហំ, អាវុសោ, ឥមិនា វិហារេន វិហរតោ អាកាសានញ្ចាយតនសហគតា សញ្ញាមនសិការា សមុទាចរន្តិ។
And so … I was entering and remaining in the dimension of infinite consciousness. While I was in that meditation, perceptions accompanied by the dimension of infinite space beset me due to loss of focus.
អថ ខោ មំ, អាវុសោ, ភគវា ឥទ្ធិយា ឧបសង្កមិត្វា ឯតទវោច: ‘មោគ្គល្លាន, មោគ្គល្លាន។ មា, ព្រាហ្មណ, វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ បមាទោ, វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនេ ចិត្តំ សណ្ឋបេហិ, វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនេ ចិត្តំ ឯកោទិំ ករោហិ, វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនេ ចិត្តំ សមាទហាៜតិ។
Then the Buddha came up to me with his psychic power and said, ‘Moggallāna, Moggallāna! Don’t neglect the dimension of infinite consciousness, brahmin! Settle your mind in the dimension of infinite consciousness; unify your mind and immerse it in the dimension of infinite consciousness.’
សោ ខ្វាហំ, អាវុសោ, អបរេន សមយេន សព្ពសោ អាកាសានញ្ចាយតនំ សមតិក្កម្ម អនន្តំ វិញ្ញាណន្តិ វិញ្ញាណញ្ចាយតនំ ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហាសិំ។
And so, after some time … I entered and remained in the dimension of infinite consciousness.
យញ្ហិ តំ, អាវុសោ, សម្មា វទមានោ វទេយ្យ …បេ… មហាភិញ្ញតំ បត្តោ”តិ។
So if anyone should be rightly called a disciple who attained to great direct knowledge with help from the Teacher, it’s me.”
