The Ocean
សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
“សេយ្យថាបិ, ភិក្ខវេ, បុរិសោ មហាសមុទ្ទតោ ទ្វេ វា តីណិ វា ឧទកផុសិតានិ ឧទ្ធរេយ្យ។
“Bhikkhus, suppose a man was to draw up two or three drops of water from the ocean.
តំ កិំ មញ្ញថ, ភិក្ខវេ, កតមំ នុ ខោ ពហុតរំ, យានិ វា ទ្វេ វា តីណិ វា ឧទកផុសិតានិ ឧព្ភតានិ យំ វា មហាសមុទ្ទេ ឧទកន៑”តិ?
What do you think, bhikkhus? Which is more: the two or three drops drawn out or the water in the ocean?”
“ឯតទេវ, ភន្តេ, ពហុតរំ, យទិទំ មហាសមុទ្ទេ ឧទកំ; អប្បមត្តកានិ ទ្វេ វា តីណិ វា ឧទកផុសិតានិ ឧព្ភតានិ។ នេវ សតិមំ កលំ ឧបេន្តិ ន សហស្សិមំ កលំ ឧបេន្តិ ន សតសហស្សិមំ កលំ ឧបេន្តិ មហាសមុទ្ទេ ឧទកំ ឧបនិធាយ ទ្វេ វា តីណិ វា ឧទកផុសិតានិ ឧព្ភតានី”តិ។
“Sir, the water in the ocean is certainly more. The two or three drops drawn out are tiny. Compared to the water in the ocean, it’s not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.”
“ឯវមេវ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ …បេ… ធម្មចក្ខុបដិលាភោ”តិ។
“In the same way, for a noble disciple, the suffering that’s over and done with is more …”
