A Student
“អនន្តេវាសិកមិទំ, ភិក្ខវេ, ព្រហ្មចរិយំ វុស្សតិ អនាចរិយកំ។ សន្តេវាសិកោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ សាចរិយកោ ទុក្ខំ ន ផាសុ វិហរតិ។ អនន្តេវាសិកោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ អនាចរិយកោ សុខំ ផាសុ វិហរតិ។
“Bhikkhus, this spiritual life is lived without a resident student and without a teaching master. A bhikkhu who lives with a resident student and a teaching master lives in suffering and discomfort. A bhikkhu who lives without a resident student and a teaching master lives in happiness and comfort.
កថញ្ច, ភិក្ខុ, សន្តេវាសិកោ សាចរិយកោ ទុក្ខំ ន ផាសុ វិហរតិ?
And how does a bhikkhu who lives with a resident student and a teaching master live in suffering and discomfort?
ឥធ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុនោ ចក្ខុនា រូបំ ទិស្វា ឧប្បជ្ជន្តិ បាបកា អកុសលា ធម្មា សរសង្កប្បា សំយោជនិយា។ ត្យាស្ស អន្តោ វសន្តិ, អន្តស្ស វសន្តិ បាបកា អកុសលា ធម្មាតិ។ តស្មា សន្តេវាសិកោតិ វុច្ចតិ។ តេ នំ សមុទាចរន្តិ, សមុទាចរន្តិ នំ បាបកា អកុសលា ធម្មាតិ។ តស្មា សាចរិយកោតិ វុច្ចតិ …បេ…។
When a bhikkhu sees a sight with the eye, bad, unskillful phenomena arise: memories and thoughts prone to fetters. Those qualities reside within. Since they have bad unskillful qualities residing within, they’re said to have a resident student. Those qualities master them. Since they’re mastered by bad unskillful qualities, they’re said to have a teaching master.

Furthermore, when a bhikkhu hears … smells … tastes … touches … knows a thought with the mind, bad, unskillful phenomena arise: memories and thoughts prone to fetters. Those qualities reside within. Since they have bad unskillful qualities residing within, they’re said to have a resident student. Those qualities master them. Since they’re mastered by bad unskillful qualities, they’re said to have a teaching master. That’s how a bhikkhu who lives with a resident student and a teaching master lives in suffering and discomfort.
