ဥဒကရဟဒသုတ္တ
Lakes
“စတ္တာရောမေ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဥဒကရဟဒါ၊ ကတမေ စတ္တာရော?
“Bhikkhus, there are these four lakes. What four?
ဥတ္တာနော ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော,
One is shallow but appears deep,
ဂမ္ဘီရော ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော,
one is deep but appears shallow,
ဥတ္တာနော ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော,
one is shallow and appears shallow, and
ဂမ္ဘီရော ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော—
one is deep and appears deep.
ဣမေ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, စတ္တာရော ဥဒကရဟဒါ၊ ဧဝမေဝံ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, စတ္တာရော ဥဒကရဟဒူပမာ ပုဂ္ဂလာ သန္တော သံဝိဇ္ဇမာနာ လောကသ္မိံ၊ ကတမေ စတ္တာရော?
These are the four lakes. In the same way, these four people similar to lakes are found in the world. What four?
ဥတ္တာနော ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော,
One is shallow but appears deep,
ဂမ္ဘီရော ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော,
one is deep but appears shallow,
ဥတ္တာနော ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော,
one is shallow and appears shallow, and
ဂမ္ဘီရော ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော၊
one is deep and appears deep.
ကထဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပုဂ္ဂလော ဥတ္တာနော ဟောတိ ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧကစ္စဿ ပုဂ္ဂလဿ ပါသာဒိကံ ဟောတိ အဘိက္ကန္တံ ပဋိက္ကန္တံ အာလောကိတံ ဝိလောကိတံ သမိဉ္ဇိတံ ပသာရိတံ သင်္ဃာဋိပတ္တစီဝရဓာရဏံ၊ သော ‘ဣဒံ ဒုက္ခန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ …ပေ… ‘အယံ ဒုက္ခနိရောဓဂါမိနီ ပဋိပဒါ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ၊ ဧဝံ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပုဂ္ဂလော ဥတ္တာနော ဟောတိ ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော၊ သေယျထာပိ သော, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဥဒကရဟဒေါ ဥတ္တာနော ဂမ္ဘီရောဘာသော; တထူပမာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမံ ပုဂ္ဂလံ ဝဒါမိ၊
And how is a person shallow but appears deep? It’s when a person is impressive when going out and coming back, when looking ahead and aside, when bending and extending the limbs, and when bearing the outer robe, bowl and robes. But they don’t really understand: ‘This is suffering’ … ‘This is the origin of suffering’ … ‘This is the cessation of suffering’ … ‘This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’. That’s how a person is shallow but appears deep. That person is like a lake that’s shallow but appears deep, I say.
ကထဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပုဂ္ဂလော ဂမ္ဘီရော ဟောတိ ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧကစ္စဿ ပုဂ္ဂလဿ န ပါသာဒိကံ ဟောတိ အဘိက္ကန္တံ ပဋိက္ကန္တံ အာလောကိတံ ဝိလောကိတံ သမိဉ္ဇိတံ ပသာရိတံ သင်္ဃာဋိပတ္တစီဝရဓာရဏံ၊ သော ‘ဣဒံ ဒုက္ခန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ ပဇာနာတိ …ပေ… ‘အယံ ဒုက္ခနိရောဓဂါမိနီ ပဋိပဒါ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ ပဇာနာတိ၊ ဧဝံ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပုဂ္ဂလော ဂမ္ဘီရော ဟောတိ ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော၊ သေယျထာပိ သော, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဥဒကရဟဒေါ ဂမ္ဘီရော ဥတ္တာနောဘာသော; တထူပမာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမံ ပုဂ္ဂလံ ဝဒါမိ၊
