Who Should Have a Novice as Attendant
“ပဉ္စဟိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဓမ္မေဟိ သမန္နာဂတေန ဘိက္ခုနာ သာမဏေရော ဥပဋ္ဌာပေတဗ္ဗော၊ ကတမေဟိ ပဉ္စဟိ? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု အသေခေန သီလက္ခန္ဓေန သမန္နာဂတော ဟောတိ; အသေခေန သမာဓိက္ခန္ဓေန … အသေခေန ပညာက္ခန္ဓေန … အသေခေန ဝိမုတ္တိက္ခန္ဓေန … အသေခေန ဝိမုတ္တိဉာဏဒဿနက္ခန္ဓေန သမန္နာဂတော ဟောတိ၊ ဣမေဟိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဉ္စဟိ ဓမ္မေဟိ သမန္နာဂတေန ဘိက္ခုနာ သာမဏေရော ဥပဋ္ဌာပေတဗ္ဗော”တိ၊
“Bhikkhus, a novice should attend on a bhikkhu with five qualities. What five? It’s a bhikkhu who has the entire spectrum of an adept’s ethics, samādhi, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom. A novice should attend on a bhikkhu with these five qualities.”
