ပုဂ္ဂလပ္ပသာဒသုတ္တ
Faith in Individuals
“ပဉ္စိမေ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အာဒီနဝါ ပုဂ္ဂလပ္ပသာဒေ၊ ကတမေ ပဉ္စ?
“Bhikkhus, there are these five drawbacks of placing faith in an individual. What five?
ယသ္မိံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပုဂ္ဂလေ ပုဂ္ဂလော အဘိပ္ပသန္နော ဟောတိ, သော တထာရူပံ အာပတ္တိံ အာပန္နော ဟောတိ ယထာရူပါယ အာပတ္တိယာ သင်္ဃော ဥက္ခိပတိ၊ တဿ ဧဝံ ဟောတိ: ‘ယော ခေါ မျာယံ ပုဂ္ဂလော ပိယော မနာပေါ သော သင်္ဃေန ဥက္ခိတ္တော'တိ၊ ဘိက္ခူသု အပ္ပသာဒဗဟုလော ဟောတိ၊ ဘိက္ခူသု အပ္ပသာဒဗဟုလော သမာနော အညေ ဘိက္ခူ န ဘဇတိ၊ အညေ ဘိက္ခူ အဘဇန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မံ န သုဏာတိ၊ သဒ္ဓမ္မံ အသုဏန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မာ ပရိဟာယတိ၊ အယံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဌမော အာဒီနဝေါ ပုဂ္ဂလပ္ပသာဒေ၊
The individual to whom a person is devoted falls into an offense such that the Saṅgha suspends them. It occurs to them: ‘This person dear and beloved to me has been suspended by the Saṅgha.’ They lose much of their faith in bhikkhus. So they don’t frequent other bhikkhus, they don’t hear the true teaching, and they fall away from the true teaching. This is the first drawback in placing faith in an individual.
ပုန စပရံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ယသ္မိံ ပုဂ္ဂလေ ပုဂ္ဂလော အဘိပ္ပသန္နော ဟောတိ, သော တထာရူပံ အာပတ္တိံ အာပန္နော ဟောတိ ယထာရူပါယ အာပတ္တိယာ သင်္ဃော အန္တေ နိသီဒါပေတိ၊ တဿ ဧဝံ ဟောတိ: ‘ယော ခေါ မျာယံ ပုဂ္ဂလော ပိယော မနာပေါ သော သင်္ဃေန အန္တေ နိသီဒါပိတော'တိ၊ ဘိက္ခူသု အပ္ပသာဒဗဟုလော ဟောတိ၊ ဘိက္ခူသု အပ္ပသာဒဗဟုလော သမာနော အညေ ဘိက္ခူ န ဘဇတိ၊ အညေ ဘိက္ခူ အဘဇန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မံ န သုဏာတိ၊ သဒ္ဓမ္မံ အသုဏန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မာ ပရိဟာယတိ၊ အယံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဒုတိယော အာဒီနဝေါ ပုဂ္ဂလပ္ပသာဒေ၊
Furthermore, the individual to whom a person is devoted falls into an offense such that the Saṅgha makes them sit at the end of the line. … This is the second drawback in placing faith in an individual.
ပုန စပရံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ယသ္မိံ ပုဂ္ဂလေ ပုဂ္ဂလော အဘိပ္ပသန္နော ဟောတိ, သော ဒိသာပက္ကန္တော ဟောတိ …ပေ… သော ဝိဗ္ဘန္တော ဟောတိ …ပေ… သော ကာလင်္ကတော ဟောတိ၊ တဿ ဧဝံ ဟောတိ: ‘ယော ခေါ မျာယံ ပုဂ္ဂလော ပိယော မနာပေါ သော ကာလင်္ကတော'တိ၊ အညေ ဘိက္ခူ န ဘဇတိ၊ အညေ ဘိက္ခူ အဘဇန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မံ န သုဏာတိ၊ သဒ္ဓမ္မံ အသုဏန္တော သဒ္ဓမ္မာ ပရိဟာယတိ၊ အယံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဉ္စမော အာဒီနဝေါ ပုဂ္ဂလပ္ပသာဒေ၊
Furthermore, the individual to whom a person is devoted departs for another region … disrobes … passes away. It occurs to them: ‘This person dear and beloved to me has passed away.’ So they don’t frequent other bhikkhus, they don’t hear the true teaching, and they fall away from the true teaching. This is the fifth drawback in placing faith in an individual.
