ตตฺร โข อายสฺมา สาริปุตฺโต ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตสิ: “อาวุโส ภิกฺขเว”ติฯ
There Venerable Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus: “Friends, bhikkhus!”
“อาวุโส”ติ โข เต ภิกฺขู อายสฺมโต สาริปุตฺตสฺส ปจฺจโสฺสสุํฯ อายสฺมา สาริปุตฺโต เอตทโวจ:
“Friend,” they replied. Sāriputta said this:
“ปญฺจหาวุโส, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อลํ สากจฺโฉ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ?
“A bhikkhu with five qualities is fit to hold a discussion with their spiritual companions. What five?
อิธาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ อตฺตนา จ สีลสมฺปนฺโน โหติ, สีลสมฺปทากถาย จ อาคตํ ปญฺหํ พฺยากตฺตา โหติ;
A bhikkhu is personally accomplished in ethics, and answers questions that come up when discussing accomplishment in ethics.
อตฺตนา จ สมาธิสมฺปนฺโน โหติ, สมาธิสมฺปทากถาย จ อาคตํ ปญฺหํ พฺยากตฺตา โหติ;

They’re personally accomplished in the knowledge and vision of freedom, and they answer questions that come up when discussing accomplishment in the knowledge and vision of freedom.
อิเมหิ โข, อาวุโส, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อลํ สากจฺโฉ สพฺรหฺมจารีนนฺ”ติฯ
