Fond of Conceit
សាវត្ថិនិទានំ។
At Sāvatthī.
ឯកមន្តំ ឋិតា ខោ សា ទេវតា ភគវតោ សន្តិកេ ឥមំ គាថំ អភាសិ:
Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“ន មានកាមស្ស ទមោ ឥធត្ថិ, ន មោនមត្ថិ អសមាហិតស្ស; ឯកោ អរញ្ញេ វិហរំ បមត្តោ, ន មច្ចុធេយ្យស្ស តរេយ្យ បារន៑”តិ។
“Someone who’s fond of conceit can’t be tamed, and someone without samādhi can’t be a sage. Living negligent alone in the wilderness, they can’t pass beyond Death’s domain.”
“មានំ បហាយ សុសមាហិតត្តោ, សុចេតសោ សព្ពធិ វិប្បមុត្តោ; ឯកោ អរញ្ញេ វិហរំ អប្បមត្តោ, ស មច្ចុធេយ្យស្ស តរេយ្យ បារន៑”តិ។
“Having given up conceit, serene within oneself, with a healthy heart, everywhere free; living diligent alone in the wilderness, they pass beyond Death’s domain.”
