ทุติยสมฺมตฺตนิยามสุตฺต
Surety in the Right Way (2nd)
“ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต สุณนฺโตปิ สทฺธมฺมํ อภพฺโพ นิยามํ โอกฺกมิตุํ กุสเลสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมฺมตฺตํฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? กถํ ปริโภติ, กถิกํ ปริโภติ, อตฺตานํ ปริโภติ, ทุปฺปญฺโญ โหติ ชโฬ เอฬมูโค, อนญฺญาเต อญฺญาตมานี โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต สุณนฺโตปิ สทฺธมฺมํ อภพฺโพ นิยามํ โอกฺกมิตุํ กุสเลสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมฺมตฺตํฯ
“Bhikkhus, someone with five qualities is unable to enter the sure path with regards to skillful qualities even when listening to the true teaching. What five? They disparage the talk, the speaker, or themselves. They’re witless, dull, and stupid. They think they know what they don’t know. Someone with these five qualities is unable to enter the sure path with regards to skillful qualities, even when listening to the true teaching.
ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต สุณนฺโต สทฺธมฺมํ ภพฺโพ นิยามํ โอกฺกมิตุํ กุสเลสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมฺมตฺตํฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? น กถํ ปริโภติ, น กถิกํ ปริโภติ, น อตฺตานํ ปริโภติ, ปญฺญวา โหติ อชโฬ อเนฬมูโค, น อนญฺญาเต อญฺญาตมานี โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต สุณนฺโต สทฺธมฺมํ ภพฺโพ นิยามํ โอกฺกมิตุํ กุสเลสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมฺมตฺตนฺ”ติฯ
Someone with five qualities is able to enter the sure path with regards to skillful qualities when listening to the true teaching. What five? They don’t disparage the talk, the speaker, or themselves. They’re wise, bright, and clever. They don’t think they know what they don’t know. Someone with these five qualities is able to enter the sure path with regards to skillful qualities when listening to the true teaching.”
