Witless
អថ ខោ អញ្ញតរោ ភិក្ខុ យេន ភគវា តេនុបសង្កមិ …បេ… ឯកមន្តំ និសិន្នោ ខោ សោ ភិក្ខុ ភគវន្តំ ឯតទវោច: “‘ទុប្បញ្ញោ ឯឡមូគោ, ទុប្បញ្ញោ ឯឡមូគោៜតិ, ភន្តេ, វុច្ចតិ។ កិត្តាវតា នុ ខោ, ភន្តេ, ‘ទុប្បញ្ញោ ឯឡមូគោៜតិ វុច្ចតី”តិ?
Then a bhikkhu went up to the Buddha … and asked him, “Sir, they speak of ‘a witless idiot’. How is a witless idiot defined?”
“សត្តន្នំ ខោ, ភិក្ខុ, ពោជ្ឈង្គានំ អភាវិតត្តា អពហុលីកតត្តា ‘ទុប្បញ្ញោ ឯឡមូគោៜតិ វុច្ចតិ។ កតមេសំ សត្តន្នំ? សតិសម្ពោជ្ឈង្គស្ស …បេ… ឧបេក្ខាសម្ពោជ្ឈង្គស្ស—ឥមេសំ ខោ, ភិក្ខុ, សត្តន្នំ ពោជ្ឈង្គានំ អភាវិតត្តា អពហុលីកតត្តា ‘ទុប្បញ្ញោ ឯឡមូគោៜតិ វុច្ចតី”តិ។
“Bhikkhu, they’re called a witless idiot because they haven’t developed and cultivated the seven awakening factors. What seven? The awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, (mental) joy, tranquility, samādhi, and equanimity. They’re called a witless idiot because they haven’t developed and cultivated these seven awakening factors.”
