A Jackal
សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
“ទារុណោ, ភិក្ខវេ, លាភសក្ការសិលោកោ …បេ… អធិគមាយ។
“Possessions, honor, and popularity are brutal …
អស្សុត្ថ នោ តុម្ហេ, ភិក្ខវេ, រត្តិយា បច្ចូសសមយំ ជរសិង្គាលស្ស វស្សមានស្សា”តិ?
Bhikkhus, did you hear an old jackal howling at the crack of dawn?”
“ឯវំ, ភន្តេ”។
“Yes, sir.”
“ឯសោ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ជរសិង្គាលោ ឧក្កណ្ឌកេន នាម រោគជាតេន ផុដ្ឋោ នេវ ពិលគតោ រមតិ, ន រុក្ខមូលគតោ រមតិ, ន អជ្ឈោកាសគតោ រមតិ; យេន យេន គច្ឆតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ តិដ្ឋតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ និសីទតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ និបជ្ជតិ; តត្ថ តត្ថ អនយព្យសនំ អាបជ្ជតិ។
“That old jackal has the disease called mange. He’s not happy in his den, or at the root of a tree, or out in the open. Wherever he goes, stands, sits, or lies down he meets with tragedy and disaster.
ឯវមេវ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ឥធេកច្ចោ ភិក្ខុ លាភសក្ការសិលោកេន អភិភូតោ បរិយាទិណ្ណចិត្តោ នេវ សុញ្ញាគារគតោ រមតិ, ន រុក្ខមូលគតោ រមតិ, ន អជ្ឈោកាសគតោ រមតិ; យេន យេន គច្ឆតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ តិដ្ឋតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ និសីទតិ, យត្ថ យត្ថ និបជ្ជតិ; តត្ថ តត្ថ អនយព្យសនំ អាបជ្ជតិ។
In the same way, take a certain bhikkhu whose mind is overcome and overwhelmed by possessions, honor, and popularity. They’re not happy in an empty hut, at the root of a tree, or out in the open. Wherever they go, stand, sit, or lie down they meet with tragedy and disaster.
ឯវំ ទារុណោ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, លាភសក្ការសិលោកោ …បេ… ឯវញ្ហិ វោ, ភិក្ខវេ, សិក្ខិតព្ពន៑”តិ។
So brutal are possessions, honor, and popularity. …”
