သမုဒ္ဒကသုတ္တ
Seers by the Ocean
သာဝတ္ထိယံ၊
At Sāvatthī.
“ဘူတပုဗ္ဗံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဣသယော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ သမုဒ္ဒတီရေ ပဏ္ဏကုဋီသု သမ္မန္တိ၊
“Once upon a time, bhikkhus, several seers who were ethical, of good character, settled in leaf huts on the ocean shore.
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန ဒေဝါသုရသင်္ဂါမော သမုပဗျူဠှော အဟောသိ၊
Now at that time a battle was fought between the gods and the demons.
အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တေသံ ဣသီနံ သီလဝန္တာနံ ကလျာဏဓမ္မာနံ ဧတဒဟောသိ: ‘ဓမ္မိကာ ခေါ ဒေဝါ, အဓမ္မိကာ အသုရာ၊ သိယာပိ နော အသုရတော ဘယံ၊ ယန္နူန မယံ သမ္ဗရံ အသုရိန္ဒံ ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ အဘယဒက္ခိဏံ ယာစေယျာမာ'တိ၊
Then the seers thought, ‘The gods are principled, the demons are unprincipled. We may be at risk from the demons. Why don’t we approach Sambara, lord of demons, and beg him for a pledge of safety.’
အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တေ ဣသယော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ—သေယျထာပိ နာမ ဗလဝါ ပုရိသော သမိဉ္ဇိတံ ဝါ ဗာဟံ ပသာရေယျ, ပသာရိတံ ဝါ ဗာဟံ သမိဉ္ဇေယျ; ဧဝမေဝ—သမုဒ္ဒတီရေ ပဏ္ဏကုဋီသု အန္တရဟိတာ သမ္ဗရဿ အသုရိန္ဒဿ သမ္မုခေ ပါတုရဟေသုံ၊ အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တေ ဣသယော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ သမ္ဗရံ အသုရိန္ဒံ ဂါထာယ အဇ္ဈဘာသိံသု:
Then, as easily as a strong person would extend or contract their arm, those seers vanished from those leaf huts on the ocean shore and reappeared in Sambara’s presence. Then those seers addressed Sambara in verse:
‘ဣသယော သမ္ဗရံ ပတ္တာ, ယာစန္တိ အဘယဒက္ခိဏံ; ကာမင်္ကရော ဟိ တေ ဒါတုံ, ဘယဿ အဘယဿ ဝါ'တိ၊
‘The seers have come to Sambara to beg for a pledge of safety. For you can give them what you wish, whether danger or safety.’
‘ဣသီနံ အဘယံ နတ္ထိ, ဒုဋ္ဌာနံ သက္ကသေဝိနံ; အဘယံ ယာစမာနာနံ, ဘယမေဝ ဒဒါမိ ဝေါ'တိ၊
‘There is no safety for seers, the hated associates of Sakka! Though you beg me for your safety, I’ll only give you fear!’
‘အဘယံ ယာစမာနာနံ, ဘယမေဝ ဒဒါသိ နော; ပဋိဂ္ဂဏှာမ တေ ဧတံ, အက္ခယံ ဟောတု တေ ဘယံ၊
‘Though we beg you for our safety, you give us only fear. This is what we get from you: may endless peril come to you!
ယာဒိသံ ဝပတေ ဗီဇံ, တာဒိသံ ဟရတေ ဖလံ; ကလျာဏကာရီ ကလျာဏံ, ပါပကာရီ စ ပါပကံ; ပဝုတ္တံ တာတ တေ ဗီဇံ, ဖလံ ပစ္စနုဘောဿသီ'တိ၊
Whatever kind of seed you sow, that is the fruit you reap. A doer of good gets good, a doer of bad gets bad. You have sown your own seed, friend, now you’ll experience the fruit.’
အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တေ ဣသယော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ သမ္ဗရံ အသုရိန္ဒံ အဘိသပိတွာ—သေယျထာပိ နာမ ဗလဝါ ပုရိသော သမိဉ္ဇိတံ ဝါ ဗာဟံ ပသာရေယျ, ပသာရိတံ ဝါ ဗာဟံ သမိဉ္ဇေယျ; ဧဝမေဝ—သမ္ဗရဿ အသုရိန္ဒဿ သမ္မုခေ အန္တရဟိတာ သမုဒ္ဒတီရေ ပဏ္ဏကုဋီသု ပါတုရဟေသုံ၊
Then those seers, having cursed Sambara, as easily as a strong person would extend or contract their arm, vanished from Sambara’s presence and reappeared in those leaf huts on the ocean shore.
အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗရော အသုရိန္ဒော တေဟိ ဣသီဟိ သီလဝန္တေဟိ ကလျာဏဓမ္မေဟိ အဘိသပိတော ရတ္တိယာ သုဒံ တိက္ခတ္တုံ ဥဗ္ဗိဇ္ဇီ”တိ၊
But after being cursed by the seers, Sambara woke in alarm three times that night.”

သုဝီရံ သုသီမဉ္စေဝ, ဓဇဂ္ဂံ ဝေပစိတ္တိနော; သုဘာသိတံ ဇယဉ္စေဝ, ကုလာဝကံ နဒုဗ္ဘိယံ; ဝေရောစန အသုရိန္ဒော, ဣသယော အရညကဉ္စေဝ; ဣသယော စ သမုဒ္ဒကာတိ၊
