Mother’s Milk
សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
“អនមតគ្គោយំ, ភិក្ខវេ, សំសារោ។ បុព្ពា កោដិ ន បញ្ញាយតិ អវិជ្ជានីវរណានំ សត្តានំ តណ្ហាសំយោជនានំ សន្ធាវតំ សំសរតំ។
“Bhikkhus, transmigration has no known beginning. No first point is found of sentient beings roaming and transmigrating, shrouded by ignorance and fettered by craving.
តំ កិំ មញ្ញថ, ភិក្ខវេ, កតមំ នុ ខោ ពហុតរំ, យំ វា វោ ឥមិនា ទីឃេន អទ្ធុនា សន្ធាវតំ សំសរតំ មាតុថញ្ញំ បីតំ, យំ វា ចតូសុ មហាសមុទ្ទេសុ ឧទកន៑”តិ?
What do you think? Which is more: the mother’s milk you’ve drunk while roaming and transmigrating for such a very long time, or the water in the four oceans?”
“យថា ខោ មយំ, ភន្តេ, ភគវតា ធម្មំ ទេសិតំ អាជានាម, ឯតទេវ, ភន្តេ, ពហុតរំ យំ នោ ឥមិនា ទីឃេន អទ្ធុនា សន្ធាវតំ សំសរតំ មាតុថញ្ញំ បីតំ, ន ត្វេវ ចតូសុ មហាសមុទ្ទេសុ ឧទកន៑”តិ។
“As we understand the Buddha’s teaching, the mother’s milk we’ve drunk while roaming and transmigrating is more than the water in the four oceans.”
“សាធុ សាធុ, ភិក្ខវេ, សាធុ ខោ មេ តុម្ហេ, ភិក្ខវេ, ឯវំ ធម្មំ ទេសិតំ អាជានាថ។ ឯតទេវ, ភិក្ខវេ, ពហុតរំ យំ វោ ឥមិនា ទីឃេន អទ្ធុនា សន្ធាវតំ សំសរតំ មាតុថញ្ញំ បីតំ, ន ត្វេវ ចតូសុ មហាសមុទ្ទេសុ ឧទកំ។
“Good, good, bhikkhus! It’s good that you understand my teaching like this. The mother’s milk you’ve drunk while roaming and transmigrating for such a very long time is more than the water in the four oceans.
តំ កិស្ស ហេតុ? អនមតគ្គោយំ, ភិក្ខវេ, សំសារោ …បេ… អលំ វិមុច្ចិតុន៑”តិ។
Why is that? Transmigration has no known beginning. … This is quite enough for you to become disillusioned, dispassionate, and freed regarding all conditions.”
