“จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต พาโล อพฺยตฺโต อสปฺปุริโส ขตํ อุปหตํ อตฺตานํ ปริหรติ, สาวชฺโช จ โหติ สานุวชฺโช วิญฺญูนํ, พหุญฺจ อปุญฺญํ ปสวติฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? สาวชฺเชน กายกมฺเมน, สาวชฺเชน วจีกมฺเมน, สาวชฺเชน มโนกมฺเมน, สาวชฺชาย ทิฏฺฐิยา—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต พาโล อพฺยตฺโต อสปฺปุริโส ขตํ อุปหตํ อตฺตานํ ปริหรติ, สาวชฺโช จ โหติ สานุวชฺโช วิญฺญูนํ, พหุญฺจ อปุญฺญํ ปสวติฯ
“When a foolish, incompetent bad person has four qualities they keep themselves broken and damaged. They deserve to be blamed and criticized by sensible people, and they make much bad karma. What four? Blameworthy deeds by way of body, speech, and mind, and blameworthy view. When a foolish, incompetent bad person has these four qualities they keep themselves broken and damaged. They deserve to be blamed and criticized by sensible people, and they make much bad karma.
จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ปณฺฑิโต วิยตฺโต สปฺปุริโส อกฺขตํ อนุปหตํ อตฺตานํ ปริหรติ, อนวชฺโช จ โหติ อนนุวชฺโช วิญฺญูนํ, พหุญฺจ ปุญฺญํ ปสวติฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? อนวชฺเชน กายกมฺเมน, อนวชฺเชน วจีกมฺเมน, อนวชฺเชน มโนกมฺเมน, อนวชฺชาย ทิฏฺฐิยา—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ปณฺฑิโต วิยตฺโต สปฺปุริโส อกฺขตํ อนุปหตํ อตฺตานํ ปริหรติ, อนวชฺโช จ โหติ อนนุวชฺโช วิญฺญูนํ, พหุญฺจ ปุญฺญํ ปสวตี”ติฯ
When an astute, competent good person has four qualities they keep themselves healthy and whole. They don’t deserve to be blamed and criticized by sensible people, and they make much merit. What four? Blameless deeds by way of body, speech, and mind, and blameless view. When an astute, competent good person has these four qualities they keep themselves healthy and whole.
