Killing Living Creatures
“จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ นิรเยฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? อตฺตนา จ ปาณาติปาตี โหติ, ปรญฺจ ปาณาติปาเต สมาทเปติ, ปาณาติปาเต จ สมนุญฺโญ โหติ, ปาณาติปาตสฺส จ วณฺณํ ภาสติ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ นิรเยฯ
“Bhikkhus, someone with four qualities is cast down to hell. What four? They themselves kill living creatures; they encourage others to kill living creatures; they approve of killing living creatures; and they praise killing living creatures. Someone with these four qualities is cast down to hell.
จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ สคฺเคฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? อตฺตนา จ ปาณาติปาตา ปฏิวิรโต โหติ, ปรญฺจ ปาณาติปาตา เวรมณิยา สมาทเปติ, ปาณาติปาตา เวรมณิยา จ สมนุญฺโญ โหติ, ปาณาติปาตา เวรมณิยา จ วณฺณํ ภาสติ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ สคฺเค”ติฯ
Someone with four qualities is raised up to heaven. What four? They don’t themselves kill living creatures; they encourage others to not kill living creatures; they approve of not killing living creatures; and they praise not killing living creatures. Someone with these four qualities is raised up to heaven.”
