อภิญฺญาสุตฺต
Insight
“จตฺตาโรเม, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมาฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร? อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปริญฺเญยฺยา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปหาตพฺพา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ภาเวตพฺพา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกาตพฺพาฯ
“Bhikkhus, there are these four things. What four? There are things that should be completely understood by direct knowledge. There are things that should be given up by direct knowledge. There are things that should be developed by direct knowledge. There are things that should be realized by direct knowledge.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปริญฺเญยฺยา? ปญฺจุปาทานกฺขนฺธา—อิเม วุจฺจนฺติ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปริญฺเญยฺยาฯ
And what are the things that should be completely understood by direct knowledge? The five grasping aggregates. These are called the things that should be completely understood by direct knowledge.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปหาตพฺพา? อวิชฺชา จ ภวตณฺหา จ—อิเม วุจฺจนฺติ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ปหาตพฺพาฯ
And what are the things that should be given up by direct knowledge? Ignorance and craving for continued existence. These are called the things that should be given up by direct knowledge.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ภาเวตพฺพา? สมโถ จ วิปสฺสนา จ—อิเม วุจฺจนฺติ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา ภาเวตพฺพาฯ
And what are the things that should be developed by direct knowledge? Serenity and discernment. These are called the things that should be developed by direct knowledge.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกาตพฺพา? วิชฺชา จ วิมุตฺติ จ—อิเม วุจฺจนฺติ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกาตพฺพาฯ
And what are the things that should be realized by direct knowledge? Knowledge and freedom. These are called the things that should be realized by direct knowledge.
อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาโร ธมฺมา”ติฯ
These are the four things.”
