18. Intention
အာယာစနသုတ္တ
Aspiration
“သဒ္ဓေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု ဧဝံ သမ္မာ အာယာစမာနော အာယာစေယျ: ‘တာဒိသော ဟောမိ ယာဒိသာ သာရိပုတ္တမောဂ္ဂလ္လာနာ'တိ၊ ဧသာ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တုလာ ဧတံ ပမာဏံ မမ သာဝကာနံ ဘိက္ခူနံ, ယဒိဒံ သာရိပုတ္တမောဂ္ဂလ္လာနာ၊
“Bhikkhus, a faithful monk would rightly aspire: ‘May I be like Sāriputta and Moggallāna!’ These are a standard and a measure for my monk disciples, that is, Sāriputta and Moggallāna.
သဒ္ဓါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခုနီ ဧဝံ သမ္မာ အာယာစမာနာ အာယာစေယျ: ‘တာဒိသာ ဟောမိ ယာဒိသာ ခေမာ စ ဘိက္ခုနီ ဥပ္ပလဝဏ္ဏာ စာ'တိ၊ ဧသာ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တုလာ ဧတံ ပမာဏံ မမ သာဝိကာနံ ဘိက္ခုနီနံ, ယဒိဒံ ခေမာ စ ဘိက္ခုနီ ဥပ္ပလဝဏ္ဏာ စ၊
A faithful nun would rightly aspire: ‘May I be like the nuns Khemā and Uppalavaṇṇā!’ These are a standard and a measure for my nun disciples, that is, the nuns Khemā and Uppalavaṇṇā.
သဒ္ဓေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဥပါသကော ဧဝံ သမ္မာ အာယာစမာနော အာယာစေယျ: ‘တာဒိသော ဟောမိ ယာဒိသော စိတ္တော စ ဂဟပတိ ဟတ္ထကော စ အာဠဝကော'တိ၊ ဧသာ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တုလာ ဧတံ ပမာဏံ မမ သာဝကာနံ ဥပါသကာနံ, ယဒိဒံ စိတ္တော စ ဂဟပတိ ဟတ္ထကော စ အာဠဝကော၊
A faithful layman would rightly aspire: ‘May I be like the householder Citta and Hatthaka of Ãḷavī!’ These are a standard and a measure for my male lay disciples, that is, the householder Citta and Hatthaka of Ãḷavī.
သဒ္ဓါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဥပါသိကာ ဧဝံ သမ္မာ အာယာစမာနာ အာယာစေယျ: ‘တာဒိသာ ဟောမိ ယာဒိသာ ခုဇ္ဇုတ္တရာ စ ဥပါသိကာ ဝေဠုကဏ္ဍကိယာ စ နန္ဒမာတာ'တိ၊ ဧသာ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တုလာ ဧတံ ပမာဏံ မမ သာဝိကာနံ ဥပါသိကာနံ, ယဒိဒံ ခုဇ္ဇုတ္တရာ စ ဥပါသိကာ ဝေဠုကဏ္ဍကိယာ စ နန္ဒမာတာ”တိ၊
A faithful laywoman would rightly aspire: ‘May I be like the laywomen Khujjuttarā and Veḷukaṇṭakī, Nanda’s mother!’ These are a standard and a measure for my female lay disciples, that is, the laywomen Khujjuttarā and Veḷukaṇṭakī, Nanda’s mother.”
