ဧဝံ မေ သုတံ—ဧကံ သမယံ အာယသ္မာ အာနန္ဒော ကောသမ္ဗိယံ ဝိဟရတိ ဃောသိတာရာမေ၊ တတြ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ အာနန္ဒော ဘိက္ခူ အာမန္တေသိ: “အာဝုသော ဘိက္ခဝေ”တိ၊
So I have heard. At one time Venerable Ānanda was staying near Kosambī, in Ghosita’s Monastery. There Ānanda addressed the bhikkhus: “Friends, bhikkhus!”
“အာဝုသော”တိ ခေါ တေ ဘိက္ခူ အာယသ္မတော အာနန္ဒဿ ပစ္စဿောသုံ၊ အာယသ္မာ အာနန္ဒော ဧတဒဝေါစ:
“Friend,” they replied. Ānanda said this:
“ယော ဟိ ကောစိ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခု ဝါ ဘိက္ခုနီ ဝါ မမ သန္တိကေ အရဟတ္တပ္ပတ္တိံ ဗျာကရောတိ, သဗ္ဗော သော စတူဟိ မဂ္ဂေဟိ, ဧတေသံ ဝါ အညတရေန၊
“Friends, all of the monks and nuns who declare in my presence that they have attained perfection, did so by one or other of four paths.
ကတမေဟိ စတူဟိ?
What four?
ဣဓ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခု သမထပုဗ္ဗင်္ဂမံ ဝိပဿနံ ဘာဝေတိ၊ တဿ သမထပုဗ္ဗင်္ဂမံ ဝိပဿနံ ဘာဝယတော မဂ္ဂေါ သဉ္ဇာယတိ၊ သော တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတိ ဘာဝေတိ ဗဟုလီကရောတိ၊ တဿ တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတော ဘာဝယတော ဗဟုလီကရောတော သံယောဇနာနိ ပဟီယန္တိ, အနုသယာ ဗျန္တီဟောန္တိ၊
Take a bhikkhu who develops serenity before discernment. As they do so, the path is born in them. They cultivate, develop, and make much of it. By doing so, they give up the fetters and eliminate the underlying tendencies.
ပုန စပရံ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခု ဝိပဿနာပုဗ္ဗင်္ဂမံ သမထံ ဘာဝေတိ၊ တဿ ဝိပဿနာပုဗ္ဗင်္ဂမံ သမထံ ဘာဝယတော မဂ္ဂေါ သဉ္ဇာယတိ၊ သော တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတိ ဘာဝေတိ ဗဟုလီကရောတိ၊ တဿ တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတော ဘာဝယတော ဗဟုလီကရောတော သံယောဇနာနိ ပဟီယန္တိ, အနုသယာ ဗျန္တီဟောန္တိ၊
Another bhikkhu develops discernment before serenity. As they do so, the path is born in them. They cultivate, develop, and make much of it. By doing so, they give up the fetters and eliminate the underlying tendencies.
ပုန စပရံ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခု သမထဝိပဿနံ ယုဂနဒ္ဓံ ဘာဝေတိ၊ တဿ သမထဝိပဿနံ ယုဂနဒ္ဓံ ဘာဝယတော မဂ္ဂေါ သဉ္ဇာယတိ၊ သော တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတိ ဘာဝေတိ ဗဟုလီကရောတိ၊ တဿ တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတော ဘာဝယတော ဗဟုလီကရောတော သံယောဇနာနိ ပဟီယန္တိ, အနုသယာ ဗျန္တီဟောန္တိ၊

ပုန စပရံ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခုနော ဓမ္မုဒ္ဓစ္စဝိဂ္ဂဟိတံ မာနသံ ဟောတိ၊ ဟောတိ သော, အာဝုသော, သမယော ယံ တံ စိတ္တံ အဇ္ဈတ္တမေဝ သန္တိဋ္ဌတိ သန္နိသီဒတိ ဧကောဒိ ဟောတိ သမာဓိယတိ၊ တဿ မဂ္ဂေါ သဉ္ဇာယတိ၊ သော တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတိ ဘာဝေတိ ဗဟုလီကရောတိ၊ တဿ တံ မဂ္ဂံ အာသေဝတော ဘာဝယတော ဗဟုလီကရောတော သံယောဇနာနိ ပဟီယန္တိ, အနုသယာ ဗျန္တီဟောန္တိ၊
Another bhikkhu’s mind is seized by restlessness to realize the teaching. But there comes a time when their mind is stilled internally; it settles, unifies, and becomes immersed in samādhi. The path is born in them. They cultivate, develop, and make much of it. By doing so, they give up the fetters and eliminate the underlying tendencies.
ယော ဟိ ကောစိ, အာဝုသော, ဘိက္ခု ဝါ ဘိက္ခုနီ ဝါ မမ သန္တိကေ အရဟတ္တပ္ပတ္တိံ ဗျာကရောတိ, သဗ္ဗော သော ဣမေဟိ စတူဟိ မဂ္ဂေဟိ, ဧတေသံ ဝါ အညတရေနာ”တိ၊
All of the monks and nuns who declare in my presence that they have attained perfection, did so by one or other of these four paths.”
