At Sāvatthī.
“ပုဗ္ဗေဝ မေ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗောဓာ အနဘိသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ ဗောဓိသတ္တဿေဝ သတော ဧတဒဟောသိ: ‘ကော နု ခေါ ရူပဿ အဿာဒေါ, ကော အာဒီနဝေါ, ကိံ နိဿရဏံ? ကော ဝေဒနာယ အဿာဒေါ, ကော အာဒီနဝေါ, ကိံ နိဿရဏံ? ကော သညာယ အဿာဒေါ, ကော အာဒီနဝေါ, ကိံ နိဿရဏံ? ကော သင်္ခါရာနံ အဿာဒေါ, ကော အာဒီနဝေါ, ကိံ နိဿရဏံ? ကော ဝိညာဏဿ အဿာဒေါ, ကော အာဒီနဝေါ, ကိံ နိဿရဏန်'တိ?
“Bhikkhus, before my awakening—when I was still unawakened but intent on awakening—I thought: ‘What’s the gratification, the drawback, and the escape when it comes to form … feeling … perception … functioning patterns … and consciousness?’
တဿ မယှံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧတဒဟောသိ: ‘ယံ ခေါ ရူပံ ပဋိစ္စ ဥပ္ပဇ္ဇတိ သုခံ သောမနဿံ, အယံ ရူပဿ အဿာဒေါ၊ ယံ ရူပံ အနိစ္စံ ဒုက္ခံ ဝိပရိဏာမဓမ္မံ, အယံ ရူပဿ အာဒီနဝေါ၊ ယော ရူပသ္မိံ ဆန္ဒရာဂဝိနယော ဆန္ဒရာဂပ္ပဟာနံ, ဣဒံ ရူပဿ နိဿရဏံ၊ ယံ ဝေဒနံ ပဋိစ္စ ဥပ္ပဇ္ဇတိ သုခံ သောမနဿံ, အယံ ဝေဒနာယ အဿာဒေါ၊ ယံ ဝေဒနာ အနိစ္စာ ဒုက္ခာ ဝိပရိဏာမဓမ္မာ, အယံ ဝေဒနာယ အာဒီနဝေါ၊ ယော ဝေဒနာယ ဆန္ဒရာဂဝိနယော ဆန္ဒရာဂပ္ပဟာနံ, ဣဒံ ဝေဒနာယ နိဿရဏံ၊ ယံ သညံ ပဋိစ္စ ဥပ္ပဇ္ဇတိ …ပေ… ယံ သင်္ခါရေ ပဋိစ္စ ဥပ္ပဇ္ဇတိ သုခံ သောမနဿံ, အယံ သင်္ခါရာနံ အဿာဒေါ၊ ယံ သင်္ခါရာ အနိစ္စာ ဒုက္ခာ ဝိပရိဏာမဓမ္မာ, အယံ သင်္ခါရာနံ အာဒီနဝေါ၊ ယော သင်္ခါရေသု ဆန္ဒရာဂဝိနယော ဆန္ဒရာဂပ္ပဟာနံ, ဣဒံ သင်္ခါရာနံ နိဿရဏံ၊ ယံ ဝိညာဏံ ပဋိစ္စ ဥပ္ပဇ္ဇတိ သုခံ သောမနဿံ, အယံ ဝိညာဏဿ အဿာဒေါ၊ ယံ ဝိညာဏံ အနိစ္စံ ဒုက္ခံ ဝိပရိဏာမဓမ္မံ, အယံ ဝိညာဏဿ အာဒီနဝေါ၊ ယော ဝိညာဏသ္မိံ ဆန္ဒရာဂဝိနယော ဆန္ဒရာဂပ္ပဟာနံ, ဣဒံ ဝိညာဏဿ နိဿရဏံ'၊
Then it occurred to me: ‘The pleasure and happiness that arise from form: this is its gratification. That form is impermanent, suffering, and perishable: this is its drawback. Removing and giving up desire and greed for form: this is its escape. The pleasure and happiness that arise from feeling … perception … functioning patterns … consciousness: this is its gratification. That consciousness is impermanent, suffering, and perishable: this is its drawback. Removing and giving up desire and greed for consciousness: this is its escape.’
ယာဝကီဝဉ္စာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ ဥပါဒါနက္ခန္ဓာနံ ဧဝံ အဿာဒဉ္စ အဿာဒတော အာဒီနဝဉ္စ အာဒီနဝတော နိဿရဏဉ္စ နိဿရဏတော ယထာဘူတံ နာဗ္ဘညာသိံ, နေဝ တာဝါဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ‘သဒေဝကေ လောကေ သမာရကေ သဗြဟ္မကေ သဿမဏဗြာဟ္မဏိယာ ပဇာယ သဒေဝမနုဿာယ အနုတ္တရံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗောဓိံ အဘိသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါ'တိ ပစ္စညာသိံ၊
As long as I didn’t truly understand these five grasping aggregates’ gratification, drawback, and escape in this way for what they are, I didn’t announce my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
ယတော စ ခွါဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ ဥပါဒါနက္ခန္ဓာနံ ဧဝံ အဿာဒဉ္စ အဿာဒတော အာဒီနဝဉ္စ အာဒီနဝတော နိဿရဏဉ္စ နိဿရဏတော ယထာဘူတံ အဗ္ဘညာသိံ; အထာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သဒေဝကေ လောကေ သမာရကေ သဗြဟ္မကေ သဿမဏဗြာဟ္မဏိယာ ပဇာယ သဒေဝမနုဿာယ အနုတ္တရံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗောဓိံ အဘိသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါတိ ပစ္စညာသိံ၊
But when I did truly understand these five grasping aggregates’ gratification, drawback, and escape in this way for what they are, I announced my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
ဉာဏဉ္စ ပန မေ ဒဿနံ ဥဒပါဒိ: ‘အကုပ္ပါ မေ ဝိမုတ္တိ; အယမန္တိမာ ဇာတိ; နတ္ထိ ဒါနိ ပုနဗ္ဘဝေါ'”တိ၊
Knowledge and vision arose in me: ‘My freedom is unshakable; this is my last rebirth; now there’ll be no more future lives.’”
