Diligence
សាវត្ថិនិទានំ។
At Sāvatthī.
ឯកមន្តំ និសីទិ។ ឯកមន្តំ និសិន្នោ ខោ រាជា បសេនទិ កោសលោ ភគវន្តំ ឯតទវោច: “អត្ថិ នុ ខោ, ភន្តេ, ឯកោ ធម្មោ យោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ សមធិគ្គយ្ហ តិដ្ឋតិ—ទិដ្ឋធម្មិកញ្ចេវ អត្ថំ សម្បរាយិកញ្ចា”តិ?
Seated to one side, King Pasenadi said to the Buddha, “Sir, is there one thing that secures benefits for both the present life and lives to come?”
“អត្ថិ ខោ, មហារាជ, ឯកោ ធម្មោ យោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ សមធិគ្គយ្ហ តិដ្ឋតិ—ទិដ្ឋធម្មិកញ្ចេវ អត្ថំ សម្បរាយិកញ្ចា”តិ។
“There is, great king.”
“កតមោ បន, ភន្តេ, ឯកោ ធម្មោ, យោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ សមធិគ្គយ្ហ តិដ្ឋតិ—ទិដ្ឋធម្មិកញ្ចេវ អត្ថំ សម្បរាយិកញ្ចា”តិ?
“So what is that one thing?”
“អប្បមាទោ ខោ, មហារាជ, ឯកោ ធម្មោ, យោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ សមធិគ្គយ្ហ តិដ្ឋតិ—ទិដ្ឋធម្មិកញ្ចេវ អត្ថំ សម្បរាយិកញ្ចាតិ។ សេយ្យថាបិ, មហារាជ, យានិ កានិចិ ជង្គលានំ បាណានំ បទជាតានិ, សព្ពានិ តានិ ហត្ថិបទេ សមោធានំ គច្ឆន្តិ, ហត្ថិបទំ តេសំ អគ្គមក្ខាយតិ—យទិទំ មហន្តត្តេន; ឯវមេវ ខោ, មហារាជ, អប្បមាទោ ឯកោ ធម្មោ, យោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ សមធិគ្គយ្ហ តិដ្ឋតិ—ទិដ្ឋធម្មិកញ្ចេវ អត្ថំ សម្បរាយិកញ្ចា”តិ។
“Diligence, great king, is one thing that secures benefits for both the present life and lives to come. The footprints of all creatures that walk can fit inside an elephant’s footprint. So an elephant’s footprint is said to be the biggest of them all. In the same way, diligence is one thing that secures benefits for both the present life and lives to come.”

That is what the Buddha said. …
“អាយុំ អរោគិយំ វណ្ណំ, សគ្គំ ឧច្ចាកុលីនតំ; រតិយោ បត្ថយន្តេន, ឧឡារា អបរាបរា។
“For one who desires a continuous flow of exceptional delights—long life, beauty, and health, heaven, and birth in an eminent family—
អប្បមាទំ បសំសន្តិ, បុញ្ញកិរិយាសុ បណ្ឌិតា; អប្បមត្តោ ឧភោ អត្ថេ, អធិគ្គណ្ហាតិ បណ្ឌិតោ។
the astute praise diligence in making merit. Being diligent, an astute person secures both benefits:
ទិដ្ឋេ ធម្មេ ច យោ អត្ថោ, យោ ចត្ថោ សម្បរាយិកោ; អត្ថាភិសមយា ធីរោ, បណ្ឌិតោតិ បវុច្ចតី”តិ។
the benefit in this life, and in lives to come. A wise one, comprehending the meaning, is said to be astute.”
