Dimensions of Mastery
“อฏฺฐิมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, อภิภายตนานิฯ กตมานิ อฏฺฐ?
“Bhikkhus, there are these eight dimensions of mastery. What eight?
อชฺฌตฺตํ รูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ ปริตฺตานิ สุวณฺณทุพฺพณฺณานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ ปฐมํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, limited, both pretty and ugly. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the first dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ รูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ อปฺปมาณานิ สุวณฺณทุพฺพณฺณานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ ทุติยํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, limitless, both pretty and ugly. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the second dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ อรูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ ปริตฺตานิ สุวณฺณทุพฺพณฺณานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ ตติยํ อภิภายตนํฯ

Not perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, limitless, both pretty and ugly. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the fourth dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ อรูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ นีลานิ นีลวณฺณานิ นีลนิทสฺสนานิ นีลนิภาสานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ ปญฺจมํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Not perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, blue, with blue color, blue hue, and blue tint. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the fifth dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ อรูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ ปีตานิ ปีตวณฺณานิ ปีตนิทสฺสนานิ ปีตนิภาสานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ ฉฏฺฐํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Not perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, yellow, with yellow color, yellow hue, and yellow tint. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the sixth dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ อรูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ โลหิตกานิ โลหิตกวณฺณานิ โลหิตกนิทสฺสนานิ โลหิตกนิภาสานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ สตฺตมํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Not perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, red, with red color, red hue, and red tint. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the seventh dimension of mastery.
อชฺฌตฺตํ อรูปสญฺญี เอโก พหิทฺธา รูปานิ ปสฺสติ โอทาตานิ โอทาตวณฺณานิ โอทาตนิทสฺสนานิ โอทาตนิภาสานิฯ ‘ตานิ อภิภุยฺย ชานามิ ปสฺสามี'ติ, เอวํสญฺญี โหติฯ อิทํ อฏฺฐมํ อภิภายตนํฯ
Not perceiving form internally, someone sees visions externally, white, with white color, white hue, and white tint. Mastering them, they perceive: ‘I know and see.’ This is the eighth dimension of mastery.
อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, อฏฺฐ อภิภายตนานี”ติฯ
These are the eight dimensions of mastery.”
