Corruptions
“චත්තාරෝමේ, භික්ඛවේ, චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේහි උපක්කිලේසේහි උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. කතමේ චත්තාරෝ? අබ්භා, භික්ඛවේ, චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. මහිකා, භික්ඛවේ, චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. ධූමෝ රජෝ, භික්ඛවේ, චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසෝ, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. රාහු, භික්ඛවේ, අසුරින්දෝ චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසෝ, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. ඉමේ ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, චත්තාරෝ චන්දිමසූරියානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේහි උපක්කිලේසේහි උපක්කිලිට්ඨා චන්දිමසූරියා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති.
“Bhikkhus, these four corruptions obscure the sun and moon, so they don’t shine and glow and radiate. What four? Clouds … Fog … Smoke … An eclipse of Rāhu, lord of demons … These are four corruptions that obscure the sun and moon, so they don’t shine and glow and radiate.
ඒවමේවං ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, චත්තාරෝමේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේහි උපක්කිලේසේහි උපක්කිලිට්ඨා ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති. කතමේ චත්තාරෝ?
In the same way, these four things corrupt ascetics and brahmins, so they don’t shine and glow and radiate. What four?
සන්ති, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා සුරං පිවන්ති මේරයං, සුරාමේරයපානා අප්පටිවිරතා. අයං, භික්ඛවේ, පඨමෝ සමණබ්රාහ්මණානං උපක්කිලේසෝ, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති.

සන්ති, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා මේථුනං ධම්මං පටිසේවන්ති, මේථුනස්මා ධම්මා අප්පටිවිරතා. අයං, භික්ඛවේ, දුතියෝ සමණබ්රාහ්මණානං උපක්කිලේසෝ, යේන උපක්කිලේසේන උපක්කිලිට්ඨා ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්ති.

ඉමේ ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, චත්තාරෝ සමණබ්රාහ්මණානං උපක්කිලේසා, යේහි උපක්කිලේසේහි උපක්කිලිට්ඨා ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති න විරෝචන්තීති.
These are four things that corrupt ascetics and brahmins, so they don’t shine and glow and radiate.
රාගදෝසපරික්කිට්ඨා, ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා; අවිජ්ජානිවුතා පෝසා, පියරූපාභිනන්දිනෝ.
Some ascetics and brahmins are plagued by greed and hate; men shrouded by ignorance, enjoying things that seem pleasant.
සුරං පිවන්ති මේරයං, පටිසේවන්ති මේථුනං; රජතං ජාතරූපඤ්ච, සාදියන්ති අවිද්දසූ; මිච්ඡාජීවේන ජීවන්ති, ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා.
Drinking liquor, having sex, accepting money and gold: they’re ignorant. Some ascetics and brahmins make a living the wrong way.
ඒතේ උපක්කිලේසා වුත්තා, බුද්ධේනාදිච්චබන්ධුනා; යේහි උපක්කිලේසේහි, ඒකේ සමණබ්රාහ්මණා; න තපන්ති න භාසන්ති, අසුද්ධා සරජා මගා.
These corruptions were spoken of by the Buddha, kinsman of the Sun. When corrupted by these, some ascetics and brahmins don’t shine or glow. Impure, dirty creatures,
අන්ධකාරේන ඕනද්ධා, තණ්හාදාසා සනේත්තිකා; වඩ්ඪේන්ති කටසිං ඝෝරං, ආදියන්ති පුනබ්භවන්”ති.
shrouded in darkness, bondservants of craving, full of attachments, swell the horrors of the charnel ground, taking up future lives.”

රෝහිතස්සවග්ගෝ පඤ්චමෝ.
තස්සුද්දානං
සමාධිපඤ්හා ද්වේ කෝධා, රෝහිතස්සාපරේ දුවේ; සුවිදූරවිසාඛවිපල්ලාසා, උපක්කිලේසේන තේ දසාති.
