Non-Decline for Bhikkhus (3rd)
“สตฺต โว, ภิกฺขเว, อปริหานิเย ธมฺเม เทเสสฺสามิฯ ตํ สุณาถ, สาธุกํ มนสิ กโรถ …เป… กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺต อปริหานิยา ธมฺมา? ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขู สทฺธา ภวิสฺสนฺติ; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานิฯ ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขู หิริมนฺโต ภวิสฺสนฺติ …เป… โอตฺตปฺปิโน ภวิสฺสนฺติ … พหุสฺสุตา ภวิสฺสนฺติ … อารทฺธวีริยา ภวิสฺสนฺติ … สติมนฺโต ภวิสฺสนฺติ … ปญฺญวนฺโต ภวิสฺสนฺติ; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานิฯ
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you seven principles that prevent decline. Listen and apply your mind well … And what are the seven principles that prevent decline? As long as the bhikkhus are faithful … conscientious … prudent … learned … energetic … mindful … wise, they can expect growth, not decline.
ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเม สตฺต อปริหานิยา ธมฺมา ภิกฺขูสุ ฐสฺสนฺติ, อิเมสุ จ สตฺตสุ อปริหานิเยสุ ธมฺเมสุ ภิกฺขู สนฺทิสฺสิสฺสนฺติ; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานี”ติฯ
As long as these seven principles that prevent decline last among the bhikkhus, and as long as the bhikkhus are seen following them, they can expect growth, not decline.”
