Qualifications for Graduation
“สตฺติมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, นิทฺทสวตฺถูนิฯ กตมานิ สตฺต? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ สิกฺขาสมาทาเน ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ สิกฺขาสมาทาเน อวิคตเปโม, ธมฺมนิสนฺติยา ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ ธมฺมนิสนฺติยา อวิคตเปโม, อิจฺฉาวินเย ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ อิจฺฉาวินเย อวิคตเปโม, ปฏิสลฺลาเน ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ ปฏิสลฺลาเน อวิคตเปโม, วีริยารมฺเภ ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ วีริยารมฺเภ อวิคตเปโม, สติเนปกฺเก ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ สติเนปกฺเก อวิคตเปโม, ทิฏฺฐิปฏิเวเธ ติพฺพจฺฉนฺโท โหติ อายติญฺจ ทิฏฺฐิปฏิเวเธ อวิคตเปโมฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺต นิทฺทสวตฺถูนี”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, there are these seven qualifications for graduation. What seven? It’s when a bhikkhu has a keen enthusiasm to undertake the training … to examine the teachings … to get rid of desires … for retreat … to rouse up energy … for mindfulness and alertness … to penetrate theoretically. And they don’t lose these desires in the future. These are the seven qualifications for graduation.”
