Non-Decline for Bhikkhus (2nd)
“สตฺต โว, ภิกฺขเว, อปริหานิเย ธมฺเม เทเสสฺสามิฯ ตํ สุณาถ, สาธุกํ มนสิ กโรถ …เป… กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺต อปริหานิยา ธมฺมา?
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you seven principles that prevent decline. Listen and apply your mind well … And what are the seven principles that prevent decline?
ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขู น กมฺมารามา ภวิสฺสนฺติ, น กมฺมรตา, น กมฺมารามตํ อนุยุตฺตา; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานิฯ
As long as the bhikkhus don’t relish work, loving it and liking to relish it, they can expect growth, not decline.
ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขู น ภสฺสารามา ภวิสฺสนฺติ …เป… น นิทฺทารามา ภวิสฺสนฺติ … น สงฺคณิการามา ภวิสฺสนฺติ … น ปาปิจฺฉา ภวิสฺสนฺติ น ปาปิกานํ อิจฺฉานํ วสํ คตา … น ปาปมิตฺตา ภวิสฺสนฺติ น ปาปสหายา น ปาปสมฺปวงฺกา … น โอรมตฺตเกน วิเสสาธิคเมน อนฺตราโวสานํ อาปชฺชิสฺสนฺติ; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานิฯ
As long as they don’t enjoy talk … sleep … company … they don’t have corrupt wishes, falling under the sway of corrupt wishes … they don’t have bad friends, companions, and associates … they don’t stop half-way after achieving some insignificant distinction, they can expect growth, not decline.
ยาวกีวญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเม สตฺต อปริหานิยา ธมฺมา ภิกฺขูสุ ฐสฺสนฺติ, อิเมสุ จ สตฺตสุ อปริหานิเยสุ ธมฺเมสุ ภิกฺขู สนฺทิสฺสิสฺสนฺติ; วุทฺธิเยว, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขูนํ ปาฏิกงฺขา, โน ปริหานี”ติฯ
As long as these seven principles that prevent decline last among the bhikkhus, and as long as the bhikkhus are seen following them, they can expect growth, not decline.”
