15. At Tikaṇḍakī
သာရန္ဒဒသုတ္တ
At Sārandada
ဧကံ သမယံ ဘဂဝါ ဝေသာလိယံ ဝိဟရတိ မဟာဝနေ ကူဋာဂါရသာလာယံ၊
At one time the Buddha was staying near Vesālī, at the Great Wood, in the hall with the peaked roof.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ ပုဗ္ဗဏှသမယံ နိဝါသေတွာ ပတ္တစီဝရမာဒါယ ဝေသာလိံ ပိဏ္ဍာယ ပါဝိသိ၊
Then the Buddha robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Vesālī for alms.
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန ပဉ္စမတ္တာနံ လိစ္ဆဝိသတာနံ သာရန္ဒဒေ စေတိယေ သန္နိသိန္နာနံ သန္နိပတိတာနံ အယမန္တရာကထာ ဥဒပါဒိ: “ပဉ္စန္နံ ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊ ကတမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ? ဟတ္ထိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, အဿရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, မဏိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, ဣတ္ထိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, ဂဟပတိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊ ဣမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိန်”တိ၊
Now at that time around five hundred Licchavis were sitting together at the Sārandada shrine, and this discussion came up among them, “The appearance of five treasures is rare in the world. What five? The elephant-treasure, the horse-treasure, the jewel-treasure, the woman-treasure, and the householder-treasure. The appearance of these five treasures is rare in the world.”
အထ ခေါ တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ မဂ္ဂေ ပုရိသံ ဌပေသုံ: “ယဒါ တွံ, အမ္ဘော ပုရိသ, ပဿေယျာသိ ဘဂဝန္တံ, အထ အမှာကံ အာရောစေယျာသီ”တိ၊
Then those Licchavis sent a man out on to the road, saying, “Mister, please tell us when you see the Buddha.”
အဒ္ဒသာ ခေါ သော ပုရိသော ဘဂဝန္တံ ဒူရတောဝ အာဂစ္ဆန္တံ; ဒိသွာန ယေန တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “အယံ သော, ဘန္တေ, ဘဂဝါ ဂစ္ဆတိ အရဟံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါ; ယဿဒါနိ ကာလံ မညထာ”တိ၊
That man saw the Buddha coming off in the distance. He went to the Licchavis and said, “Sirs, the Blessed One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha is coming. Please go at your convenience.”
အထ ခေါ တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိံသု; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ အဋ္ဌံသု၊ ဧကမန္တံ ဌိတာ ခေါ တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: “သာဓု, ဘန္တေ, ယေန သာရန္ဒဒံ စေတိယံ တေနုပသင်္ကမတု အနုကမ္ပံ ဥပါဒါယာ”တိ၊ အဓိဝါသေသိ ဘဂဝါ တုဏှီဘာဝေန၊
Then those Licchavis went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and said to him, “Please go to the Sārandada shrine, out of compassion.” The Buddha consented with silence.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ ယေန သာရန္ဒဒံ စေတိယံ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ပညတ္တေ အာသနေ နိသီဒိ၊ နိသဇ္ဇ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ တေ လိစ္ဆဝီ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “ကာယ နုတ္ထ, လိစ္ဆဝီ, ဧတရဟိ ကထာယ သန္နိသိန္နာ, ကာ စ ပန ဝေါ အန္တရာကထာ ဝိပ္ပကတာ”တိ?
Then the Buddha went up to the Sārandada shrine, where he sat on the seat spread out, and said to the Licchavis, “Licchavis, what were you sitting talking about just now? What conversation was left unfinished?”
“ဣဓ, ဘန္တေ, အမှာကံ သန္နိသိန္နာနံ သန္နိပတိတာနံ အယမန္တရာကထာ ဥဒပါဒိ: ‘ပဉ္စန္နံ ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊ ကတမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ? ဟတ္ထိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, အဿရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, မဏိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, ဣတ္ထိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ, ဂဟပတိရတနဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊ ဣမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိန်'”တိ၊
“Well, Master Gotama, this discussion came up among us while we were sitting together: ‘The appearance of five treasures is rare in the world. …’”
“ကာမာဓိမုတ္တာနံ ဝတ ဘော လိစ္ဆဝီနံ ကာမံယေဝ အာရဗ္ဘ အန္တရာကထာ ဥဒပါဒိ၊ ပဉ္စန္နံ, လိစ္ဆဝီ, ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊ ကတမေသံ ပဉ္စန္နံ?
“You Licchavis are so fixated on sensual pleasures, that’s the only discussion that came up! Licchavis, the appearance of five treasures is rare in the world. What five?
တထာဂတဿ အရဟတော သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ,
The appearance of a Realized One, a perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha.
တထာဂတပ္ပဝေဒိတဿ ဓမ္မဝိနယဿ ဒေသေတာ ပုဂ္ဂလော ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ,
A person who explains the teaching and training proclaimed by a Realized One.
တထာဂတပ္ပဝေဒိတဿ ဓမ္မဝိနယဿ ဒေသိတဿ ဝိညာတာ ပုဂ္ဂလော ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ,
A person who understands the teaching and training proclaimed by a Realized One.
တထာဂတပ္ပဝေဒိတဿ ဓမ္မဝိနယဿ ဒေသိတဿ ဝိညာတာ ဓမ္မာနုဓမ္မပ္ပဋိပန္နော ပုဂ္ဂလော ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ,
A person who practices in line with the teaching.
ကတညူ ကတဝေဒီ ပုဂ္ဂလော ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိံ၊
A person who is grateful and thankful.
ဣမေသံ ခေါ, လိစ္ဆဝီ, ပဉ္စန္နံ ရတနာနံ ပါတုဘာဝေါ ဒုလ္လဘော လောကသ္မိန်”တိ၊
The appearance of these five treasures is rare in the world.”
