“ပဉ္စဟိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အင်္ဂေဟိ သမန္နာဂတော ရညော ခတ္တိယဿ မုဒ္ဓါဝသိတ္တဿ ဇေဋ္ဌော ပုတ္တော ဩပရဇ္ဇံ ပတ္ထေတိ၊ ကတမေဟိ ပဉ္စဟိ?
“Bhikkhus, an anointed khattiya king’s eldest son with five factors aspires to become a viceroy. What five?
ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ရညော ခတ္တိယဿ မုဒ္ဓါဝသိတ္တဿ ဇေဋ္ဌော ပုတ္တော ဥဘတော သုဇာတော ဟောတိ မာတိတော စ ပိတိတော စ, သံသုဒ္ဓဂဟဏိကော, ယာဝ သတ္တမာ ပိတာမဟယုဂါ အက္ခိတ္တော အနုပက္ကုဋ္ဌော ဇာတိဝါဒေန;
It’s when an anointed khattiya king’s eldest son is well born on both his mother’s and father’s side, of pure descent, with irrefutable and impeccable genealogy back to the seventh paternal generation.
အဘိရူပေါ ဟောတိ ဒဿနီယော ပါသာဒိကော ပရမာယ ဝဏ္ဏပေါက္ခရတာယ သမန္နာဂတော;
He is attractive, good-looking, lovely, of surpassing beauty.
မာတာပိတူနံ ပိယော ဟောတိ မနာပေါ,
He is dear and beloved to his parents.
ဗလကာယဿ ပိယော ဟောတိ မနာပေါ;
He is dear and beloved to the armed forces.
ပဏ္ဍိတော ဟောတိ ဝိယတ္တော မေဓာဝီ ပဋိဗလော အတီတာနာဂတပစ္စုပ္ပန္နေ အတ္ထေ စိန္တေတုံ၊
He is astute, competent, and intelligent, able to think issues through as they bear upon the past, future, and present.
တဿ ဧဝံ ဟောတိ: ‘အဟံ ခေါမှိ ဥဘတော သုဇာတော မာတိတော စ ပိတိတော စ, သံသုဒ္ဓဂဟဏိကော, ယာဝ သတ္တမာ ပိတာမဟယုဂါ အက္ခိတ္တော အနုပက္ကုဋ္ဌော ဇာတိဝါဒေန၊ ကသ္မာဟံ ဩပရဇ္ဇံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ အဘိရူပေါ ဒဿနီယော ပါသာဒိကော ပရမာယ ဝဏ္ဏပေါက္ခရတာယ သမန္နာဂတော၊ ကသ္မာဟံ ဩပရဇ္ဇံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ မာတာပိတူနံ ပိယော မနာပေါ၊ ကသ္မာဟံ ဩပရဇ္ဇံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ ဗလကာယဿ ပိယော မနာပေါ၊ ကသ္မာဟံ ဩပရဇ္ဇံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ ပဏ္ဍိတော ဝိယတ္တော မေဓာဝီ ပဋိဗလော အတီတာနာဂတပစ္စုပ္ပန္နေ အတ္ထေ စိန္တေတုံ၊ ကသ္မာဟံ ဩပရဇ္ဇံ န ပတ္ထေယျန်'တိ၊ ဣမေဟိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဉ္စဟိ အင်္ဂေဟိ သမန္နာဂတော ရညော ခတ္တိယဿ မုဒ္ဓါဝသိတ္တဿ ဇေဋ္ဌော ပုတ္တော ဩပရဇ္ဇံ ပတ္ထေတိ၊
He thinks: ‘I’m well born … attractive … dear and beloved to my parents … dear and beloved to the armed forces … I’m astute, competent, and intelligent, able to think issues through as they bear upon the past, future, and present. Why shouldn’t I aspire to become a viceroy?’ An anointed khattiya king’s eldest son with these five factors aspires to become a viceroy.
ဧဝမေဝံ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဉ္စဟိ ဓမ္မေဟိ သမန္နာဂတော ဘိက္ခု အာသဝါနံ ခယံ ပတ္ထေတိ၊ ကတမေဟိ ပဉ္စဟိ?
In the same way, a bhikkhu with five qualities aspires to end the defilements. What five?
ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု သီလဝါ ဟောတိ …ပေ… သမာဒါယ သိက္ခတိ သိက္ခာပဒေသု;
It’s when a bhikkhu is ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and seeking alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules they’ve undertaken.
ဗဟုဿုတော ဟောတိ …ပေ… ဒိဋ္ဌိယာ သုပ္ပဋိဝိဒ္ဓါ;
They’re very learned, remembering and keeping what they’ve learned. These teachings are good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, meaningful and well-phrased, describing a spiritual practice that’s totally full and pure. They are very learned in such teachings, remembering them, reciting them, mentally scrutinizing them, and comprehending them theoretically.
စတူသု သတိပဋ္ဌာနေသု သုပ္ပတိဋ္ဌိတစိတ္တော ဟောတိ;
Their mind is firmly established in the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
အာရဒ္ဓဝီရိယော ဝိဟရတိ အကုသလာနံ ဓမ္မာနံ ပဟာနာယ, ကုသလာနံ ဓမ္မာနံ ဥပသမ္ပဒါယ, ထာမဝါ ဒဠှပရက္ကမော အနိက္ခိတ္တဓုရော ကုသလေသု ဓမ္မေသု;
They live with energy roused up for giving up unskillful qualities and embracing skillful qualities. They’re strong, staunchly vigorous, not slacking off when it comes to developing skillful qualities.
ပညဝါ ဟောတိ, ဥဒယတ္ထဂါမိနိယာ ပညာယ သမန္နာဂတော အရိယာယ နိဗ္ဗေဓိကာယ သမ္မာ ဒုက္ခက္ခယဂါမိနိယာ၊
They’re wise. They have the wisdom of arising and passing away which is noble, penetrative, and leads to the complete ending of suffering.
တဿ ဧဝံ ဟောတိ: ‘အဟံ ခေါမှိ သီလဝါ, ပါတိမောက္ခသံဝရသံဝုတော ဝိဟရာမိ အာစာရဂေါစရသမ္ပန္နော အဏုမတ္တေသု ဝဇ္ဇေသု ဘယဒဿာဝီ, သမာဒါယ သိက္ခာမိ သိက္ခာပဒေသု၊ ကသ္မာဟံ အာသဝါနံ ခယံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ ဗဟုဿုတော သုတဓရော သုတသန္နိစယော, ယေ တေ ဓမ္မာ အာဒိကလျာဏာ မဇ္ဈေကလျာဏာ ပရိယောသာနကလျာဏာ သာတ္ထံ သဗျဉ္ဇနံ ကေဝလပရိပုဏ္ဏံ ပရိသုဒ္ဓံ ဗြဟ္မစရိယံ အဘိဝဒန္တိ, တထာရူပါ မေ ဓမ္မာ ဗဟုဿုတာ ဟောန္တိ ဓာတာ ဝစသာ ပရိစိတာ မနသာနုပေက္ခိတာ ဒိဋ္ဌိယာ သုပ္ပဋိဝိဒ္ဓါ၊ ကသ္မာဟံ အာသဝါနံ ခယံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ စတူသု သတိပဋ္ဌာနေသု သုပ္ပတိဋ္ဌိတစိတ္တော၊ ကသ္မာဟံ အာသဝါနံ ခယံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ အာရဒ္ဓဝီရိယော ဝိဟရာမိ အကုသလာနံ ဓမ္မာနံ ပဟာနာယ, ကုသလာနံ ဓမ္မာနံ ဥပသမ္ပဒါယ, ထာမဝါ ဒဠှပရက္ကမော အနိက္ခိတ္တဓုရော ကုသလေသု ဓမ္မေသု၊ ကသ္မာဟံ အာသဝါနံ ခယံ န ပတ္ထေယျံ၊ အဟံ ခေါမှိ ပညဝါ ဥဒယတ္ထဂါမိနိယာ ပညာယ သမန္နာဂတော အရိယာယ နိဗ္ဗေဓိကာယ သမ္မာ ဒုက္ခက္ခယဂါမိနိယာ၊ ကသ္မာဟံ အာသဝါနံ ခယံ န ပတ္ထေယျန်'တိ၊ ဣမေဟိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ပဉ္စဟိ ဓမ္မေဟိ သမန္နာဂတော ဘိက္ခု အာသဝါနံ ခယံ ပတ္ထေတီ”တိ၊
They think: ‘I’m ethical … learned … mindful … energetic … wise. I have the wisdom of arising and passing away which is noble, penetrative, and leads to the complete ending of suffering. Why shouldn’t I aspire to end the defilements?’ A bhikkhu with these five qualities aspires to end the defilements.”
