သမိဒ္ဓိသုတ္တ
With Samiddhi
ဧကံ သမယံ ဘဂဝါ သက္ကေသု ဝိဟရတိ သိလာဝတိယံ၊
At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Sakyans near Silāvatī.
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ ဘဂဝတော အဝိဒူရေ အပ္ပမတ္တော အာတာပီ ပဟိတတ္တော ဝိဟရတိ၊ အထ ခေါ အာယသ္မတော သမိဒ္ဓိဿ ရဟောဂတဿ ပဋိသလ္လီနဿ ဧဝံ စေတသော ပရိဝိတက္ကော ဥဒပါဒိ: “လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယဿ မေ သတ္ထာ အရဟံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါ၊ လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယွာဟံ ဧဝံ သွာက္ခာတေ ဓမ္မဝိနယေ ပဗ္ဗဇိတော၊ လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယဿ မေ သဗြဟ္မစာရိနော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ”တိ၊
Now at that time Venerable Samiddhi was meditating not far from the Buddha, diligent, keen, and resolute. Then as Venerable Samiddhi was in private retreat this thought came to his mind, “I’m so fortunate, so very fortunate, to have a teacher who is a perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha! I’m so fortunate, so very fortunate, to have gone forth in a teaching and training so well explained! I’m so fortunate, so very fortunate, to have spiritual companions who are ethical and of good character.”
အထ ခေါ မာရော ပါပိမာ အာယသ္မတော သမိဒ္ဓိဿ စေတသာ စေတောပရိဝိတက္ကမညာယ ယေနာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ အာယသ္မတော သမိဒ္ဓိဿ အဝိဒူရေ မဟန္တံ ဘယဘေရဝံ သဒ္ဒမကာသိ, အပိဿုဒံ ပထဝီ မညေ ဥန္ဒြီယတိ၊
And then Māra the Wicked, knowing what Samiddhi was thinking, went up to him and made a terrifyingly loud noise close by him. It seemed as if the earth was shattering.
အထ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိ၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “ဣဓာဟံ, ဘန္တေ, ဘဂဝတော အဝိဒူရေ အပ္ပမတ္တော အာတာပီ ပဟိတတ္တော ဝိဟရာမိ၊ တဿ မယှံ, ဘန္တေ, ရဟောဂတဿ ပဋိသလ္လီနဿ ဧဝံ စေတသော ပရိဝိတက္ကော ဥဒပါဒိ: ‘လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယဿ မေ သတ္ထာ အရဟံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါ၊ လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယွာဟံ ဧဝံ သွာက္ခာတေ ဓမ္မဝိနယေ ပဗ္ဗဇိတော၊ လာဘာ ဝတ မေ, သုလဒ္ဓံ ဝတ မေ, ယဿ မေ သဗြဟ္မစာရိနော သီလဝန္တော ကလျာဏဓမ္မာ'တိ၊ တဿ မယှံ, ဘန္တေ, အဝိဒူရေ မဟာဘယဘေရဝသဒ္ဒေါ အဟောသိ, အပိဿုဒံ ပထဝီ မညေ ဥန္ဒြီယတီ”တိ၊ “နေသာ, သမိဒ္ဓိ, ပထဝီ ဥန္ဒြီယတိ၊ မာရော ဧသော ပါပိမာ တုယှံ ဝိစက္ခုကမ္မာယ အာဂတော၊ ဂစ္ဆ တွံ, သမိဒ္ဓိ, တတ္ထေဝ အပ္ပမတ္တော အာတာပီ ပဟိတတ္တော ဝိဟရာဟီ”တိ၊
Then Samiddhi went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and told him what had happened. The Buddha said, “Samiddhi, that’s not the earth shattering. That’s Māra the Wicked come to pull the wool over your eyes! Go back to that same place, Samiddhi, and meditate, diligent, keen, and resolute.”
“ဧဝံ, ဘန္တေ”တိ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ ဘဂဝတော ပဋိဿုတွာ ဥဋ္ဌာယာသနာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ပဒက္ခိဏံ ကတွာ ပက္ကာမိ၊
“Yes, sir,” replied Samiddhi. He got up from his seat, bowed, and respectfully circled the Buddha, keeping him on his right, before leaving.
ဒုတိယမ္ပိ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ တတ္ထေဝ အပ္ပမတ္တော အာတာပီ ပဟိတတ္တော ဝိဟာသိ၊ ဒုတိယမ္ပိ ခေါ အာယသ္မတော သမိဒ္ဓိဿ ရဟောဂတဿ ပဋိသလ္လီနဿ …ပေ… ဒုတိယမ္ပိ ခေါ မာရော ပါပိမာ အာယသ္မတော သမိဒ္ဓိဿ စေတသာ စေတောပရိဝိတက္ကမညာယ …ပေ… အပိဿုဒံ ပထဝီ မညေ ဥန္ဒြီယတိ၊
And for a second time Samiddhi was meditating in that same place, diligent, ardent, and resolute. And for a second time he had the same thought … and Māra made an earth-shattering noise.
အထ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ သမိဒ္ဓိ မာရံ ပါပိမန္တံ ဂါထာယ အဇ္ဈဘာသိ:
Then Samiddhi addressed Māra the Wicked One in verse:
“သဒ္ဓါယာဟံ ပဗ္ဗဇိတော, အဂါရသ္မာ အနဂါရိယံ; သတိ ပညာ စ မေ ဗုဒ္ဓါ, စိတ္တဉ္စ သုသမာဟိတံ; ကာမံ ကရဿု ရူပါနိ, နေဝ မံ ဗျာဓယိဿသီ”တိ၊
“I went forth out of faith from the lay life to homelessness. My mindfulness and wisdom are mature, my mind is serene in samādhi. Make whatever illusions you want, it won’t bother me.”
အထ ခေါ မာရော ပါပိမာ “ဇာနာတိ မံ သမိဒ္ဓိ ဘိက္ခူ”တိ ဒုက္ခီ ဒုမ္မနော တတ္ထေဝန္တရဓာယီတိ၊
Then Māra the Wicked, thinking, “The bhikkhu Samiddhi knows me!” miserable and sad, vanished right there.
