Slanting to the Ocean
“សេយ្យថាបិ, ភិក្ខវេ, គង្គា នទី សមុទ្ទនិន្នា សមុទ្ទបោណា សមុទ្ទបព្ភារា; ឯវមេវ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ភាវេន្តោ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ពហុលីករោន្តោ និព្ពាននិន្នោ ហោតិ និព្ពានបោណោ និព្ពានបព្ភារោ។
“Bhikkhus, the Ganges river slants, slopes, and inclines to the ocean. In the same way, a bhikkhu who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to Nibbana.
កថញ្ច, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ភាវេន្តោ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ពហុលីករោន្តោ និព្ពាននិន្នោ ហោតិ និព្ពានបោណោ និព្ពានបព្ភារោ? ឥធ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ សម្មាទិដ្ឋិំ ភាវេតិ អមតោគធំ អមតបរាយនំ អមតបរិយោសានំ …បេ… សម្មាសមាធិំ ភាវេតិ អមតោគធំ អមតបរាយនំ អមតបរិយោសានំ។ ឯវំ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ភាវេន្តោ អរិយំ អដ្ឋង្គិកំ មគ្គំ ពហុលីករោន្តោ និព្ពាននិន្នោ ហោតិ និព្ពានបោណោ និព្ពានបព្ភារោ”តិ។
And how does a bhikkhu who develops the noble eightfold path slant, slope, and incline to Nibbana? It’s when a bhikkhu develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samādhi, which culminate, finish, and end in the deathless. That’s how a bhikkhu who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to Nibbana.”
