14. A Warrior
පඨමමෝරනිවාපසුත්ත
At the Peacocks’ Feeding Ground (1st)
ඒකං සමයං භගවා රාජගහේ විහරති මෝරනිවාපේ පරිබ්බාජකාරාමේ. තත්ර ඛෝ භගවා භික්ඛූ ආමන්තේසි: “භික්ඛවෝ”ති.
At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, at the monastery of the wanderers in the peacocks’ feeding ground. There the Buddha addressed the bhikkhus, “Bhikkhus!”
“භදන්තේ”ති තේ භික්ඛූ භගවතෝ පච්චස්සෝසුං. භගවා ඒතදවෝච:
“Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:
“තීහි, භික්ඛවේ, ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ භික්ඛු අච්චන්තනිට්ඨෝ හෝති අච්චන්තයෝගක්ඛේමී අච්චන්තබ්රහ්මචාරී අච්චන්තපරියෝසානෝ සේට්ඨෝ දේවමනුස්සානං. කතමේහි තීහි? අසේක්ඛේන සීලක්ඛන්ධේන, අසේක්ඛේන සමාධික්ඛන්ධේන, අසේක්ඛේන පඤ්ඤාක්ඛන්ධේන.
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with three qualities has reached the ultimate end, the ultimate sanctuary from the yoke, the ultimate spiritual life, the ultimate goal. They are the best among gods and humans. What three? The entire spectrum of an adept’s ethics, samādhi, and wisdom.
ඉමේහි ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, තීහි ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ භික්ඛු අච්චන්තනිට්ඨෝ හෝති අච්චන්තයෝගක්ඛේමී අච්චන්තබ්රහ්මචාරී අච්චන්තපරියෝසානෝ සේට්ඨෝ දේවමනුස්සානන්”ති.
A bhikkhu with these three qualities has reached the ultimate end, the ultimate sanctuary from the yoke, the ultimate spiritual life, the ultimate goal. They are the best among gods and humans.”
