သာဝတ္ထိနိဒါနံ၊
At Sāvatthī.
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန ရာဇာ ပသေနဒိ ကောသလော မလ္လိကာယ ဒေဝိယာ သဒ္ဓိံ ဥပရိပါသာဒဝရဂတော ဟောတိ၊
Now at that time King Pasenadi of Kosala was upstairs in the royal longhouse together with Queen Mallikā.
အထ ခေါ ရာဇာ ပသေနဒိ ကောသလော မလ္လိကံ ဒေဝိံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “အတ္ထိ နု ခေါ တေ, မလ္လိကေ, ကောစညော အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော”တိ?
Then the king said to the queen, “Mallikā, is there anyone more dear to you than yourself?”
“နတ္ထိ ခေါ မေ, မဟာရာဇ, ကောစညော အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော၊ တုယှံ ပန, မဟာရာဇ, အတ္ထညော ကောစိ အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော”တိ?
“No, great king, there isn’t. But is there anyone more dear to you than yourself?”
“မယှမ္ပိ ခေါ, မလ္လိကေ, နတ္ထညော ကောစိ အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော”တိ၊
“For me also, Mallikā, there’s no-one.”
အထ ခေါ ရာဇာ ပသေနဒိ ကောသလော ပါသာဒါ ဩရောဟိတွာ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိ၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော ခေါ ရာဇာ ပသေနဒိ ကောသလော ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “ဣဓာဟံ, ဘန္တေ, မလ္လိကာယ ဒေဝိယာ သဒ္ဓိံ ဥပရိပါသာဒဝရဂတော မလ္လိကံ ဒေဝိံ ဧတဒဝေါစံ: ‘အတ္ထိ နု ခေါ တေ, မလ္လိကေ, ကောစညော အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော'တိ? ဧဝံ ဝုတ္တေ, ဘန္တေ, မလ္လိကာ ဒေဝီ မံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: ‘နတ္ထိ ခေါ မေ, မဟာရာဇ, ကောစညော အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော၊ တုယှံ ပန, မဟာရာဇ, အတ္ထညော ကောစိ အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော'တိ? ဧဝံ ဝုတ္တာဟံ, ဘန္တေ, မလ္လိကံ ဒေဝိံ ဧတဒဝေါစံ: ‘မယှမ္ပိ ခေါ, မလ္လိကေ, နတ္ထညော ကောစိ အတ္တနာ ပိယတရော'”တိ၊
Then King Pasenadi of Kosala came downstairs from the stilt longhouse, went to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and told him what had happened.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ ဧတမတ္ထံ ဝိဒိတွာ တာယံ ဝေလာယံ ဣမံ ဂါထံ အဘာသိ:
Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha recited this verse:
“သဗ္ဗာ ဒိသာ အနုပရိဂမ္မ စေတသာ, နေဝဇ္ဈဂါ ပိယတရမတ္တနာ ကွစိ; ဧဝံ ပိယော ပုထု အတ္တာ ပရေသံ, တသ္မာ န ဟိံသေ ပရမတ္တကာမော”တိ၊
“Having explored every quarter with the mind, one finds no-one dearer than oneself. Likewise for others, each holds themselves dear; so one who loves themselves would harm no other.”
