ကုမ္မသုတ္တ
A Turtle
သာဝတ္ထိယံ ဝိဟရတိ၊
At Sāvatthī.
“ဒါရုဏော, ဘိက္ခဝေ, လာဘသက္ကာရသိလောကော …ပေ… အဓိဂမာယ၊
“Possessions, honor, and popularity are brutal …
ဘူတပုဗ္ဗံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အညတရသ္မိံ ဥဒကရဟဒေ မဟာကုမ္မကုလံ စိရနိဝါသိ အဟောသိ၊ အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အညတရော ကုမ္မော အညတရံ ကုမ္မံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: ‘မာ ခေါ တွံ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, ဧတံ ပဒေသံ အဂမာသီ'တိ၊
Once upon a time in a certain lake there was a large family of turtles that had lived there for a long time. Then one of the turtles said to another, ‘My dear turtle, don’t you go to that place.’
အဂမာသိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သော ကုမ္မော တံ ပဒေသံ၊ တမေနံ လုဒ္ဒေါ ပပတာယ ဝိဇ္ဈိ၊
But that turtle did go to that place, and a hunter pierced her with a harpoon.
အထ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သော ကုမ္မော ယေန သော ကုမ္မော တေနုပသင်္ကမိ၊ အဒ္ဒသာ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သော ကုမ္မော တံ ကုမ္မံ ဒူရတောဝ အာဂစ္ဆန္တံ၊ ဒိသွာန တံ ကုမ္မံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: ‘ကစ္စိ တွံ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, န တံ ပဒေသံ အဂမာသီ'တိ?
Then that turtle went back to the other turtle. When the other turtle saw her coming off in the distance, he said, ‘My dear turtle, I hope you didn’t go to that place!’
‘အဂမာသိံ ခွါဟံ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, တံ ပဒေသန်'တိ၊
‘I did.’
‘ကစ္စိ ပနာသိ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, အက္ခတော အနုပဟတော'တိ?
‘But my dear turtle, I hope you’re not hurt or injured!’
‘အက္ခတော ခေါမှိ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, အနုပဟတော, အတ္ထိ စ မေ ဣဒံ သုတ္တကံ ပိဋ္ဌိတော ပိဋ္ဌိတော အနုဗန္ဓန်'တိ၊
‘I’m not hurt or injured. But this cord keeps dragging behind me.’
‘တဂ္ဃသိ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, ခတော, တဂ္ဃ ဥပဟတော၊ ဧတေန ဟိ တေ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, သုတ္တကေန ပိတရော စ ပိတာမဟာ စ အနယံ အာပန္နာ ဗျသနံ အာပန္နာ၊ ဂစ္ဆ ဒါနိ တွံ, တာတ ကုမ္မ, န ဒါနိ တွံ အမှာကန်'တိ၊
‘Indeed, my dear turtle, you’re hurt and injured! Your father and grandfather met with tragedy and disaster because of such a cord. Go now, you are no longer one of us.’
လုဒ္ဒေါတိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, မာရဿေတံ ပါပိမတော အဓိဝစနံ၊
‘Hunter’ is a term for Māra the Wicked.
ပပတာတိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, လာဘသက္ကာရသိလောကဿေတံ အဓိဝစနံ၊
‘Harpoon’ is a term for possessions, honor, and popularity.
သုတ္တကန္တိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, နန္ဒီရာဂဿေတံ အဓိဝစနံ၊
‘Cord’ is a term for greed and relishing.
ယော ဟိ ကောစိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု ဥပ္ပန္နံ လာဘသက္ကာရသိလောကံ အဿာဒေတိ နိကာမေတိ—အယံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု ဂိဒ္ဓေါ ပပတာယ အနယံ အာပန္နော ဗျသနံ အာပန္နော ယထာကာမကရဏီယော ပါပိမတော၊
Whoever enjoys and likes arisen possessions, honor, and popularity is called a bhikkhu who has been pierced with a harpoon. They’ve met with tragedy and disaster, and the Wicked One can do with them what he wants.
ဧဝံ ဒါရုဏော ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, လာဘသက္ကာရသိလောကော …ပေ… ဧဝဉှိ ဝေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သိက္ခိတဗ္ဗန်”တိ၊
So brutal are possessions, honor, and popularity. …”
