Old Age and Death
ឯវំ មេ សុតំ—ឯកំ សមយំ ភគវា សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ ជេតវនេ អនាថបិណ្ឌិកស្ស អារាមេ។ តត្រ ខោ ភគវា …បេ…
So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.
“យេ ហិ កេចិ, ភិក្ខវេ, សមណា វា ព្រាហ្មណា វា ជរាមរណំ នប្បជានន្តិ, ជរាមរណសមុទយំ នប្បជានន្តិ, ជរាមរណនិរោធំ នប្បជានន្តិ, ជរាមរណនិរោធគាមិនិំ បដិបទំ នប្បជានន្តិ, ន មេ តេ, ភិក្ខវេ, សមណា វា ព្រាហ្មណា វា សមណេសុ វា សមណសម្មតា ព្រាហ្មណេសុ វា ព្រាហ្មណសម្មតា, ន ច បន តេ អាយស្មន្តោ សាមញ្ញត្ថំ វា ព្រហ្មញ្ញត្ថំ វា ទិដ្ឋេវ ធម្មេ សយំ អភិញ្ញា សច្ឆិកត្វា ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរន្តិ។
“Bhikkhus, there are ascetics and brahmins who don’t understand old age and death, their origin, their cessation, and the practice that leads to their cessation. I don’t deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables don’t realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and don’t live having realized it with their own insight.
យេ ច ខោ កេចិ, ភិក្ខវេ, សមណា វា ព្រាហ្មណា វា ជរាមរណំ បជានន្តិ …បេ… បដិបទំ បជានន្តិ, តេ ខោ មេ, ភិក្ខវេ, សមណា វា ព្រាហ្មណា វា សមណេសុ ចេវ សមណសម្មតា ព្រាហ្មណេសុ ច ព្រាហ្មណសម្មតា, តេ ច បនាយស្មន្តោ សាមញ្ញត្ថញ្ច ព្រហ្មញ្ញត្ថញ្ច ទិដ្ឋេវ ធម្មេ សយំ អភិញ្ញា សច្ឆិកត្វា ឧបសម្បជ្ជ វិហរន្តី”តិ។
There are ascetics and brahmins who do understand old age and death, their origin, their cessation, and the practice that leads to their cessation. I deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and live having realized it with their own insight.”
