At Sāvatthī.
“กิสฺมึ นุ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สติ, กึ อุปาทาย, กึ อภินิวิสฺส: ‘เอตํ มม, เอโสหมสฺมิ, เอโส เม อตฺตา'ติ สมนุปสฺสตี”ติ?
“Bhikkhus, when what exists, because of grasping what and insisting on what, does someone regard things like this: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”
ภควํมูลกา โน, ภนฺเต, ธมฺมา …เป…
“Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. …”
“รูเป โข, ภิกฺขเว, สติ, รูปํ อุปาทาย, รูปํ อภินิวิสฺส …เป… วิญฺญาเณ สติ, วิญฺญาณํ อุปาทาย, วิญฺญาณํ อภินิวิสฺส: ‘เอตํ มม, เอโสหมสฺมิ, เอโส เม อตฺตา'ติ สมนุปสฺสติฯ
“When form exists, because of grasping form and insisting on form … When consciousness exists, because of grasping consciousness and insisting on consciousness, someone regards it like this: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self.’
ตํ กึ มญฺญถ, ภิกฺขเว, รูปํ นิจฺจํ วา อนิจฺจํ วา”ติ?
What do you think, bhikkhus? Is form permanent or impermanent?”
“อนิจฺจํ, ภนฺเต” …เป…
“Impermanent, sir.” …
วิปริณามธมฺมํ, อปิ นุ ตํ อนุปาทาย เอตํ มม, เอโสหมสฺมิ, เอโส เม อตฺตาติ สมนุปเสฺสยฺยาติ?
“But by not grasping what’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, would you regard it like this: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”
“โน เหตํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“No, sir.”
“เวทนา … สญฺญา … สงฺขารา … วิญฺญาณํ นิจฺจํ วา อนิจฺจํ วา”ติ?
“Is feeling … perception … functioning patterns … consciousness permanent or impermanent?”
“อนิจฺจํ, ภนฺเต” …เป…
“Impermanent, sir.” …
วิปริณามธมฺมํ, อปิ นุ ตํ อนุปาทาย เอตํ มม, เอโสหมสฺมิ, เอโส เม อตฺตาติ สมนุปเสฺสยฺยาติ?
