สาวตฺถินิทานํฯ
At Sāvatthī.
“กิสฺมึ นุ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สติ, กึ อุปาทาย อุปฺปชฺชติ อชฺฌตฺตํ สุขทุกฺขนฺ”ติ?
“Bhikkhus, when what exists, because of grasping what, do pleasure and pain arise in oneself?”
ภควํมูลกา โน, ภนฺเต, ธมฺมา …เป…
“Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. …”
“รูเป โข, ภิกฺขเว, สติ รูปํ อุปาทาย อุปฺปชฺชติ อชฺฌตฺตํ สุขทุกฺขํฯ เวทนาย สติ …เป… สญฺญาย สติ … สงฺขาเรสุ สติ … วิญฺญาเณ สติ วิญฺญาณํ อุปาทาย อุปฺปชฺชติ อชฺฌตฺตํ สุขทุกฺขํฯ
“When form exists, because of grasping form, pleasure and pain arise in oneself. When feeling … perception … functioning patterns … consciousness exists, because of grasping consciousness, pleasure and pain arise in oneself.
ตํ กึ มญฺญถ, ภิกฺขเว, รูปํ นิจฺจํ วา อนิจฺจํ วา”ติ?
What do you think, bhikkhus? Is form permanent or impermanent?”
“อนิจฺจํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“Impermanent, sir.”
“ยํ ปนานิจฺจํ ทุกฺขํ วา ตํ สุขํ วา”ติ?
“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”
“ทุกฺขํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“Suffering, sir.”
“ยํ ปนานิจฺจํ ทุกฺขํ วิปริณามธมฺมํ, อปิ นุ ตํ อนุปาทาย อุปฺปชฺเชยฺย อชฺฌตฺตํ สุขทุกฺขนฺ”ติ?
“But by not grasping what’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, would pleasure and pain arise in oneself?”
“โน เหตํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“No, sir.”
“เวทนา …เป… สญฺญา … สงฺขารา … วิญฺญาณํ นิจฺจํ วา อนิจฺจํ วา”ติ?
“Is feeling … perception … functioning patterns … consciousness permanent or impermanent?”
“อนิจฺจํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“Impermanent, sir.”
“ยํ ปนานิจฺจํ ทุกฺขํ วา ตํ สุขํ วา”ติ?
“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”
“ทุกฺขํ, ภนฺเต”ฯ
“Suffering, sir.”
