“පඤ්චහි, භික්ඛවේ, ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ ගිලානුපට්ඨාකෝ නාලං ගිලානං උපට්ඨාතුං. කතමේහි පඤ්චහි? නප්පටිබලෝ හෝති භේසජ්ජං සංවිධාතුං; සප්පායාසප්පායං න ජානාති, අසප්පායං උපනාමේති, සප්පායං අපනාමේති; ආමිසන්තරෝ ගිලානං උපට්ඨාති, නෝ මේත්තචිත්තෝ; ජේගුච්ඡී හෝති උච්චාරං වා පස්සාවං වා වන්තං වා ඛේළං වා නීහරිතුං; නප්පටිබලෝ හෝති ගිලානං කාලේන කාලං ධම්මියා කථාය සන්දස්සේතුං සමාදපේතුං සමුත්තේජේතුං සම්පහංසේතුං. ඉමේහි ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, පඤ්චහි ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ ගිලානුපට්ඨාකෝ නාලං ගිලානං උපට්ඨාතුං.
“Bhikkhus, a carer with five qualities is not competent to care for a patient. What five? They’re unable to prepare medicine. They don’t know what is suitable and unsuitable, so they supply what is unsuitable and remove what is suitable. They care for the sick for the sake of material benefits, not out of love. They’re disgusted to remove feces, urine, vomit, or spit. They’re unable to educate, encourage, fire up, and inspire the patient with a Dhamma talk from time to time. A carer with these five qualities is not competent to care for a patient.
පඤ්චහි, භික්ඛවේ, ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ ගිලානුපට්ඨාකෝ අලං ගිලානං උපට්ඨාතුං. කතමේහි පඤ්චහි? පටිබලෝ හෝති භේසජ්ජං සංවිධාතුං; සප්පායාසප්පායං ජානාති, අසප්පායං අපනාමේති, සප්පායං උපනාමේති; මේත්තචිත්තෝ ගිලානං උපට්ඨාති, නෝ ආමිසන්තරෝ; අජේගුච්ඡී හෝති උච්චාරං වා පස්සාවං වා වන්තං වා ඛේළං වා නීහරිතුං; පටිබලෝ හෝති ගිලානං කාලේන කාලං ධම්මියා කථාය සන්දස්සේතුං සමාදපේතුං සමුත්තේජේතුං සම්පහංසේතුං. ඉමේහි ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, පඤ්චහි ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ ගිලානුපට්ඨාකෝ අලං ගිලානං උපට්ඨාතුන්”ති.
A carer with five qualities is competent to care for a patient. What five? They’re able to prepare medicine.
