“यं, भिक्खवे, न तुम्हाकं, तं पजहथ। तं वो पहीनं हिताय सुखाय भविस्सति। किञ्च, भिक्खवे, न तुम्हाकं? रूपा, भिक्खवे, न तुम्हाकं; ते पजहथ। ते वो पहीना हिताय सुखाय भविस्सन्ति।
“Yaṁ, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ, taṁ pajahatha. Taṁ vo pahīnaṁ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Kiñca, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ? Rūpā, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ; te pajahatha. Te vo pahīnā hitāya sukhāya bhavissanti.
“Bhikkhus, give up what’s not yours. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness. And what isn’t yours? Sights aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.
सद्दा … गन्धा … रसा … फोट्ठब्बा … धम्मा न तुम्हाकं; ते पजहथ। ते वो पहीना हिताय सुखाय भविस्सन्ति।
Saddā … gandhā … rasā … phoṭṭhabbā … dhammā na tumhākaṁ; te pajahatha. Te vo pahīnā hitāya sukhāya bhavissanti.
Sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.
सेय्यथापि, भिक्खवे, यं इमस्मिं जेतवने तिणकट्ठ …पे…
Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yaṁ imasmiṁ jetavane tiṇakaṭṭha …pe…
Suppose a person was to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and leaves in this Jeta’s Grove …
एवमेव खो, भिक्खवे, रूपा न तुम्हाकं; ते पजहथ। ते वो पहीना हिताय सुखाय भविस्सन्ती”ति …।
evameva kho, bhikkhave, rūpā na tumhākaṁ; te pajahatha. Te vo pahīnā hitāya sukhāya bhavissantī”ti ….
In the same way, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.”
