Shackles
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန ရညာ ပသေနဒိနာ ကောသလေန မဟာဇနကာယော ဗန္ဓာပိတော ဟောတိ, အပ္ပေကစ္စေ ရဇ္ဇူဟိ အပ္ပေကစ္စေ အန္ဒူဟိ အပ္ပေကစ္စေ သင်္ခလိကာဟိ၊
Now at that time a large group of people had been put in shackles by King Pasenadi of Kosala—some in ropes, some in manacles, some in chains.
အထ ခေါ သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဘိက္ခူ ပုဗ္ဗဏှသမယံ နိဝါသေတွာ ပတ္တစီဝရမာဒါယ သာဝတ္ထိံ ပိဏ္ဍာယ ပဝိသိံသု၊ သာဝတ္ထိယံ ပိဏ္ဍာယ စရိတွာ ပစ္ဆာဘတ္တံ ပိဏ္ဍပါတပဋိက္ကန္တာ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိံသု; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိံသု၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နာ ခေါ တေ ဘိက္ခူ ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: “ဣဓ, ဘန္တေ, ရညာ ပသေနဒိနာ ကောသလေန မဟာဇနကာယော ဗန္ဓာပိတော, အပ္ပေကစ္စေ ရဇ္ဇူဟိ အပ္ပေကစ္စေ အန္ဒူဟိ အပ္ပေကစ္စေ သင်္ခလိကာဟီ”တိ၊
Then several bhikkhus robed up in the morning and, taking their bowls and robes, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Then, after the meal, when they returned from almsround, they went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and told him what was happening.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ ဧတမတ္ထံ ဝိဒိတွာ တာယံ ဝေလာယံ ဣမာ ဂါထာယော အဘာသိ:
Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha recited these verses:
“န တံ ဒဠှံ ဗန္ဓနမာဟု ဓီရာ, ယဒါယသံ ဒါရုဇံ ပဗ္ဗဇဉ္စ; သာရတ္တရတ္တာ မဏိကုဏ္ဍလေသု, ပုတ္တေသု ဒါရေသု စ ယာ အပေက္ခာ၊
“The wise say that shackle is not strong that’s made of iron, wood, or knots. But obsession with jeweled earrings, concern for your partners and children:
ဧတံ ဒဠှံ ဗန္ဓနမာဟု ဓီရာ, ဩဟာရိနံ သိထိလံ ဒုပ္ပမုဉ္စံ; ဧတမ္ပိ ဆေတွာန ပရိဗ္ဗဇန္တိ, အနပေက္ခိနော ကာမသုခံ ပဟာယာ”တိ၊
this, say the wise, is a strong shackle dragging the indulgent down, hard to escape. Having cut this one too they go forth, unconcerned, having given up sensual pleasures.”
