Obstacles to Rain
“පඤ්චිමේ, භික්ඛවේ, වස්සස්ස අන්තරායා, යං නේමිත්තා න ජානන්ති, යත්ථ නේමිත්තානං චක්ඛු න කමති. කතමේ පඤ්ච?
“Bhikkhus, there are these five obstacles to rain, which the forecasters don’t know, and which their vision does not traverse. What five?
උපරි, භික්ඛවේ, ආකාසේ තේජෝධාතු පකුප්පති. තේන උප්පන්නා මේඝා පටිවිගච්ඡන්ති. අයං, භික්ඛවේ, පඨමෝ වස්සස්ස අන්තරායෝ, යං නේමිත්තා න ජානන්ති, යත්ථ නේමිත්තානං චක්ඛු න කමති.
In the upper atmosphere the fire element flares up, which disperses the clouds. This is the first obstacle to rain, which the forecasters don’t know, and which their vision does not traverse.
පුන චපරං, භික්ඛවේ, උපරි ආකාසේ වායෝධාතු පකුප්පති. තේන උප්පන්නා මේඝා පටිවිගච්ඡන්ති. අයං, භික්ඛවේ, දුතියෝ වස්සස්ස අන්තරායෝ, යං නේමිත්තා න ජානන්ති, යත්ථ නේමිත්තානං චක්ඛු න කමති.
