उद्धम्भागियसुत्त

Uddhambhāgiyasutta

Higher Fetters

“पञ्चिमानि, भिक्खवे, उद्धम्भागियानि संयोजनानि। कतमानि पञ्च? रूपरागो, अरूपरागो, मानो, उद्धच्चं, अविज्जा—इमानि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चुद्धम्भागियानि संयोजनानि।

“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, uddhambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni. Katamāni pañca? Rūparāgo, arūparāgo, māno, uddhaccaṁ, avijjā—imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcuddhambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni.

“Bhikkhus, there are five higher fetters. What five? Desire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance. These are the five higher fetters.

इमेसं खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चन्नं उद्धम्भागियानं संयोजनानं पहानाय …पे… इमे चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना भावेतब्बा”ति।

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcannaṁ uddhambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ pahānāya …pe… ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā bhāvetabbā”ti.

To give up these five higher fetters you should develop the four kinds of mindfulness meditation. …”
