Gatisutta

Places of Rebirth

“पञ्चिमा, भिक्खवे, गतियो। कतमा पञ्च? निरयो, तिरच्छानयोनि, पेत्तिविसयो, मनुस्सा, देवा—इमा खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्च गतियो।

“Pañcimā, bhikkhave, gatiyo. Katamā pañca? Nirayo, tiracchānayoni, pettivisayo, manussā, devā—imā kho, bhikkhave, pañca gatiyo.

“Bhikkhus, there are five destinations. What five? Hell, the animal realm, the ghost realm, humanity, and the gods. These are the five destinations.

इमासं खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चन्नं गतीनं पहानाय …पे… इमे चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना भावेतब्बा”ति।

Imāsaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcannaṁ gatīnaṁ pahānāya …pe… ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā bhāvetabbā”ti.

To give up these five destinations you should develop the four kinds of mindfulness meditation. …”
