สนฺทิฏฺฐิกนิพฺพานสุตฺต
Extinguishment Is Visible in This Very Life
“‘สนฺทิฏฺฐิกํ นิพฺพานํ, สนฺทิฏฺฐิกํ นิพฺพานนฺ'ติ, อาวุโส, วุจฺจติฯ กิตฺตาวตา นุ โข, อาวุโส, สนฺทิฏฺฐิกํ นิพฺพานํ วุตฺตํ ภควตา”ติ?
“Friend, they say that ‘Nibbana is apparent in the present life’. In what way did the Buddha say Nibbana is apparent in the present life?”
“อิธาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ วิวิจฺเจว กาเมหิ …เป… ปฐมํ ฌานํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหรติฯ เอตฺตาวตาปิ โข, อาวุโส, สนฺทิฏฺฐิกํ นิพฺพานํ วุตฺตํ ภควตา ปริยาเยน …เป…ฯ
“First, take a bhikkhu who, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … enters and remains in the first jhāna. To this extent the Buddha said that Nibbana is apparent in the present life in a qualified sense. …
ปุน จปรํ, อาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ สพฺพโส เนวสญฺญานาสญฺญายตนํ สมติกฺกมฺม สญฺญาเวทยิตนิโรธํ อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหรติ, ปญฺญาย จสฺส ทิสฺวา อาสวา ปริกฺขีณา โหนฺติฯ เอตฺตาวตาปิ โข, อาวุโส, สนฺทิฏฺฐิกํ นิพฺพานํ วุตฺตํ ภควตา นิปฺปริยาเยนา”ติฯ
Furthermore, take a bhikkhu who, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and remains in the cessation of perception and feeling. And, having seen with wisdom, their defilements come to an end. To this extent the Buddha said that Nibbana is apparent in the present life in a definitive sense.”
