Slanting to the Ocean
“သေယျထာပိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဂင်္ဂါ နဒီ သမုဒ္ဒနိန္နာ သမုဒ္ဒပေါဏာ သမုဒ္ဒပဗ္ဘာရာ; ဧဝမေဝ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဘာဝေန္တော အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဗဟုလီကရောန္တော နိဗ္ဗာနနိန္နော ဟောတိ နိဗ္ဗာနပေါဏော နိဗ္ဗာနပဗ္ဘာရော၊
“Bhikkhus, the Ganges river slants, slopes, and inclines to the ocean. In the same way, a bhikkhu who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to Nibbana.
ကထဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဘာဝေန္တော အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဗဟုလီကရောန္တော နိဗ္ဗာနနိန္နော ဟောတိ နိဗ္ဗာနပေါဏော နိဗ္ဗာနပဗ္ဘာရော? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု သမ္မာဒိဋ္ဌိံ ဘာဝေတိ နိဗ္ဗာနနိန္နံ နိဗ္ဗာနပေါဏံ နိဗ္ဗာနပဗ္ဘာရံ …ပေ… သမ္မာသမာဓိံ ဘာဝေတိ နိဗ္ဗာနနိန္နံ နိဗ္ဗာနပေါဏံ နိဗ္ဗာနပဗ္ဘာရံ၊ ဧဝံ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဘာဝေန္တော အရိယံ အဋ္ဌင်္ဂိကံ မဂ္ဂံ ဗဟုလီကရောန္တော နိဗ္ဗာနနိန္နော ဟောတိ နိဗ္ဗာနပေါဏော နိဗ္ဗာနပဗ္ဘာရော”တိ၊
And how does a bhikkhu who develops the noble eightfold path slant, slope, and incline to Nibbana? It’s when a bhikkhu develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samādhi, which slants, slopes, and inclines to Nibbana. That’s how a bhikkhu who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to Nibbana.”
